I just wonder how many of those a person would have to go through before he found one As for the manual boxes, they never go out. If you ever take one apart you will see why, there are not many parts to them (basically two gears 90 degree opposed with oil for lube) Every hot rod that leaves our shop has one of these boxes on it, if we can get it to fit. Any 70 - 85 GM frame will most likely accept this box. I just feel I can spend 495.00 on something a little more important than a steering box. Let face it, these Buicks cost enough to build already, so you might as well put your money to the best cause. Blair Phillis :af: :af: :af:
Compression I'm just following up on the compression issue. Yes you can use alot of compression with the blower but it has to match the combination. I know a racer Jeff Tyson that runs low 8 sec 1/4 mi car that have over 13 to 1. He runs a HUGE cam on a small block so with out the compression he'd never get the car on the transbrake and he runs a air to water intercooler. I've see it run with a dry tank on the intercooler though due to rules.
Hey Rich, Do you still have the (400) size blower pulley? When you where doing all that pulley swaping, did you keep the pulleys or trade them back in for another size? If you still have it and have no plans on using it would you consider letting me have it? I"ve got the (413) but when I put an intercooler on I'll lose a couple of psi so I'll need a smaller pulley to make up the difference. Rick
Yeah, I have a 400, how ever, it's the one I run up here in the Heat....... @5000ft and in 90+ degree weather, the 400 only gives me about 8psi........ I would let you use it to see what you thought once you cooler was on, but I think the P1's and the D1's have different sized shafts..... (P1 9/16th D1 5/8') The shaft size is one of the changes between our Chargers. If you call ATI and find out I'm wrong and they quit doing them this way, I would be more than happy to send it your way (I would need it back tho as it's my summer pulley).
In theory, you could use alcohol as a band-aid to supress detonation if you can't get sufficient fuel or have a bad cam design or something, but generally (not always) a wasted effort on an NA motor. -Bob Cunningham
Rich, Thanks for the offer but I decided to invest in a car hauler this spring instead. ou: Thanks again, Rick
That's almost scary.............. Just bought a 26ft today :eek2: Now I have to wait for 8 weeks for it to be built...... http://haulmark.com/PDFs/Edge flyer 302.pdf Rich
Rich, Nice going! That inclosed trailer looks great. That should keep your car nice and dry. Good luck.
Carl... your right, it will keep it nice and dry...... as well as SAFE!. Being able to lock it up and not have to worry about it was the big deciding factor. Plus when it's being hauled here and there, it's safe from the elements as well......... Hopefully it pays off. Rich
Hello everyone...... It's that time again, time to blow the dust off this thing and start pluging away at it. Well..... I got a WideBand (O2) sensor setup over the winter. I figured this was the last piece of the puzzle I was missing (tunning wise). As you probably know, I've left the car on the rich side to keep thing safe. What we didn't know is how rich it was (leaning it out enought to keep it from surging / bogging under load). Well the wide band told the story this weekend and there's lots more POWER to had :beer Normal Driving...... 11.8 to 1 to 13.6 to 1 (pretty much just right) Light throttle (1/4 to 1/2 ) 14.2 to 15.8 (lean) Full throttle 9.5 to 9.7 Fat Fat Fat!!!!!!! I knew I was a tad lean on just over tip in, but didn't think it was that bad.... To cure this, I'll be opening up my power valve holes a hair more. This will allow me to keep the dirability that I have currently, and solve the tip in lean condition. I'll post more on how it goes and many .000 I have to open it up to cure it. Full thottle will depend on how the larger holes in the power play out. Hopefully I can just drop about 2 or 3 jet sizes in the Secondaries and have it close..... If not, according to "The Chad" I'll need to open up my Air Blead's a bit...... I'm shooting for 11.9 to 12.9 to 1 ........ I'm sure there is atleast another 50 to 75 HP to be had just in carb tunning here. Not to mention the blower is going to make more boost the closer the tune gets. All I can say is the WideBand is worth what it cost and anyone driving a Boosted car should have one.... it takes the guess work out of the tune 100% More to come............................
Well, Its doesn't have a procharger and the car is not a GS but the motor is running and sounds good. I doubt it will run off pump gas since it has 240 lbs cranking pressure, but at this point I don't care. Just thought I have to post a picture so people can see I am actually making some progress. Anyway hope get the N2O hooked up and the motor in the car by mid May. Blair :af: :af: :af:
I see the last post was on 2004, so how this blown 455 doing now? I'm starting on a single blow-through 455, I'm using a Holset HX 55 turbo from an M-11 Cummins. I'm interested in the Carb modifications. I'm using an 800 CFM Holley, it'll be here next week and I'm starting back on the exhaust manifolds this weekend on my Bridgeport.
Here's some news on Rich's car: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=26143 http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=153302 Devon
Thanks for the bump Devon, Yes the car is still running well, now motor mods since the last of the ATI II thread other than more power with a bigger blower. Follow my base line build, get a good solid tune, don't spin it any harder than 6000rpm and things will live for a long time. --Rich
There is a web site for thesuperchargerstore. Take a look at the pictures of their customer's cars. There is only one Buick and you will see the Procharger F1 that Bob and Terry made for my Stage 1. These guys know their stuff! It is scary fast! I had QuickFuel make a 750 blowthrough for me that works great.
