A little pricey!!! :eek2: It's a Ford. It is only rare because no one wanted to buy it new. For that kind of money I could have a GSX, GNX and a nice 2002 Z-28. Each one a better car. But it is always interesting to see what the market may be.

  3. i had a hard top as a kid and beat the p--s out of it
    429 cobra 4spd car
a hwy ended and i kept going is what took the car out
    it rolled nice though
    just on the front end
    5 times
i am here so it did its job :TU:

That is a lot of money for an unrestored car, its rarity notwithstanding. Note the power windows, very rare for 70 Torino converts, not rare enough to make it this valuable though. :pp

It will be interesting to see if this one sells, would likely set a Torino price record. :eek2:

Would I want a car like this, absolutely, along with a 10-10 GSX, Stage 1 drop top, Hemi Road Runner drop top, among others. :beer Can I afford one right now, not a chance. :ball: :ball:

I know of another 19,000 mile, power window, mostly original, 70 Torino drop top which can be had for 50K Cdn. It is not an SCJ, rather an "N" code 429.

A PERFECT example of the type of price gouging in this market.
Yes Rare, Yes desireable to Some, and Yes Fords of this type in MOST cases are the Buys right now.
A "Drag Pak" Car with Power options is a real rarity, as most would have been ordered pretty basic so as to be the best performers. (less options= less weight)
Although the car is in "Driver condition" (Puts it ahead of the $30k Basket case GSX & "V" code convertible that was nothing but a rotted shell)
the $155k price is WAY out of line. I doubt the car would bring that fully restored, even at the Scottsdale Circus, late on Saturday, after the Drinks have been going since Noon.

Not that I agree with the price, but it's far from gouging. No one has been suckered. The guy wants to keep the car but will sell for what he deems is the opportunity cost of being without the car. Check out THIS link for more info.

    Diego,
Maybe I used the wrong term, but, it is the beginning of the "Game".
Someone will see the figure and whether the car sells or not, the figure will start to roll.
Back in the mid 80s, a group of guys in the North East found a Hemi Cuda Convertible, did the restoration, and bounced the car through a number of Auctions, either selling the car back & forth, or NO Saling the car, until the price jumped above the price they wanted for it, when an outsider bid on the car, and they felt the profit was good enough to back out, and let the car go.
The rest is History, Market Sky Rocketed, and dropped, and is back again.
Buicks and 442s are running the same direction, Funny how they are getting noticed more Now.
The Figure on the Lenny Kravitz w-32 was rediculous in Scottsdale, but the ownership has also added Value, like the Nash Bridges Cudas. (there were like 5 cars used for the show)
By the way, I think we met @ a Super Car Showdown a number of years ago.
Is your car White with a Light Blue Stripe? (the shade of blue was diffrent from most, possibly a 1 off.)

Holy ****, I thought that only happened on Sox and Martin race cars and AMC's. If you drove that thing in public, one might think you're from Britton, Mi.

Never seen an original car rust that way. May be a real one, though. Easy enough to change the 4 speed shift ball for the correct one for a dual gate. All else looks correct....

One of these days, someone's going to get into the definition of a "restored" car and how that affects the value.

This "Captain America", Charlie Callas 442 may have been a "restored" car in the last wave of muscle car mania (late 80's) and brought big bucks. Just dumping money into a car doesn't necessarily take it to the next level.

Give me an original car any day of the week unless I know who did the car, and what it was before it started. That Torino conv, Diego's 442, and my Ramrod are definitely in the same category on that. Would all be very big dollar cars if done by the right person (Gene Wray comes to mind on Oldsmobiles, Stefina on Mercuries), but better left alone if the mega bucks aren't going to be spent with the right person doing it.

Unless you're ready to take the car to the next warp speed level, leave it alone. I think that's what the owner of that SCJ Torino is saying. I'm with you Diego....That sacres me. That's twice you and I have agreed on something in the last few months. Must not be an election year... :pp :pp :pp

Hi, JR, are you the guy from OH who lives in TX now? Yellow GS?

If not, I'm sure you're right, I just need proper context beyond the location. :)

My car is not one-off but is unusual in its color combo. There are others out there. . . come to think of it, my car is red, white, and blue too!

Yep, That's me! Suprised you remember my car, or me.
I read the next post by "Everett" on the car, and it is just what I said earlier, about the market and manipulation.
I Don't disagree that the Ford cars are under priced, but by running up 1 car to bring up others Can & Could cause problems.
    1) Inflated market values are temporary at best.
    2) opens the doors for ALL kinds of scams & poor quality of vehicles, that can kill the Good cars, and damage reputable Dealers, and individuals.
(I know "Buyer Beware". Inspected a GTO for a Client, Beautiful looking car, Great Equip. but couldn't hang a magnet on 80% of the car. Frame had scale 1/16 x11/2 x3" falling out from inside.
Couldn't understand WHY Appraisal came back $10k+ under what purchase price had been.)
    3) IF you look at prices on 78 Pace Cars, and 76 Eldorado Convertibles, you can see what I mean. Pace cars were bringing Sticker+ $20 K, what are they worth today. (I saw the same manipulation by Dealers when these cars were NEW.)
What the final out come will be, is that the cars will end up getting out of the hands of the Enthusiasts, and into the Hoarders & "Collectors" who are in it ONLY for "Investment" purposes.

mr wills what do you base your appraisals on?

    Andy,
Appraisals are based on figures compiled by the largest Data Base of it's type in the Country.
I am 1 of aproximately 100 Agents, who attend Auctions, (public & private)compile sales figures from recorded Sales through Private & Dealer sales throughout the country.
Basically, for the Individual Appraisal, we compile the information on a vehicle, including Photos, and a "Hands On" inspection of the individual vehicle. Compile that information on a Copyrighted form, and using the Training provided by the Parent Company. All information is sent to Corporate HQ and is entered in the Data Base.
When the Information goes to "HQ", it is then checked against the General, Then on individual basis for Color, options, & specific information on the vehicle to come up with an actual Figure on the Specific Car.
We are the Prime Appraisers for Hagerty & Grundy Insurance Companies, Putnum Leasing, and have done work for the Major Manufacturers.
You can visit our web site @ www.autoappraisal.com, for more information.
or send me a PM for more information.
    Thanks
    JR
