I actually took a closer look and the balancer is riveted together like Bob said. So the only other logical conclusion is the chain skipped a tooth or two. Doesn't run bad though
Little update on the wildcat- Finally located a set of factory rubber strut rod bushings. They got delivered yesterday and I installed them today. Buttoned up thr front end, greased it all up and it's finally sitting on 4 tires! It's actually ready for its first road test. Unfortunately, it's going to rain tomorrow. It's ready to go. It starts, runs, stops and steers. Eric even dropped off a Florida antique plate so we're even legal! Stay tuned
Today was the day. I got the cat out from behind the garage where it's been languishing since August. The cat made it around the block! I gave the whitewalls a scrubbing and put the hubcaps on. Runs pretty good. Man, what's with the steering box? It's like 20 turns lock to lock! You don't really steer it, you kinda point it in the general direction! It's like driving a yact! I did discover it's got a factory husrt competition plus shifter in it. Definitely gonna need a rebuild on the shifter and linkage. That will necessitate removing the console which will necessitate removing the seats... Couple pics from today. Ran a new line to thr oil pressure gauge, got the E brake working.....
Couple things.... First, the cat developed a wierd rumbling scrapy noise when I drive it. Sounds like maybe bad u joints maybe? Axle bearings? Definitely sounds like something is scraping though. I need to put this on the priority list. Unfortunately, back to behind the garage for a look see.. Second, I noticed thst after sitting the carb is literally empty and it takes alot of cranking to get the fuel pump to fill the carb up. Another conundrum to figure out. It's an AFB. Doesn't seem like the fuel has a way of leaking out the bottom. The noise is really bugging me. And I'm not gonna be able to look at it till next week. I'm curious what it could be.
Hi, My 65 with a AFB and now dual quads both are dry after sitting, believe some cars with AC had a extra line back to the tank which helps as when hot the fuel boils off. So may just be what it is, I know some run a electric fuel pump to help with the crank until fuel bowels are full. Cool project, BTW Regards, Jim
Eric dropped off a really nice dash pad today. Looking at it earlier. What's involved in replacing it? Looks like everythings gotta come apart to replace it
Driveshaft dropped off this morning on my way into work.... I took the console out today. So odd, the Hurst shifter is bolted to a bracket inside of the car instead of on the tail shaft. The rods go through the floor. Shifter is out and apart on the bench. Since it's such an early shifter, there isn't a master rebuild kit available. Its also not even stamped Hurst. Scott from shifter doc.com is looking into what's available. It's gonna get a mineral spirit bath in the interim.
Shifter has been cleaned up and put back together. Came out really good. All greased up with some red and tacky. I reinstalled it today. Put in some new pit pack bushings, cleaned and greased the linkage rod adjusters and adjusted it all up. Shes shifting smooth now! Console is getting a full detail. Eric is co.ing over to help me pull the seats and carpeting. I bought black carpet dye so we're gonna try dying the carpets back to black. We hsve nothing to lose

Yep....the UPS guy is bringing me his Camaro now. Says it runs like a dog and cant spin the wheels. Hmm....my timing light says differently....lol
Front carpets are out. Here's a little before and after. The carpets were disgusting. Hosed the big chunks off, a little simple green and a rinse. When they were damp, I put about 48oz of carpet dye. It's basically like Ritt. Not bad...
