As much as I love this event, I will not participate if I have to detune my car anymore. I have set my car up to NHRA specs which is legal. I have never cheated and I will not start. But my car is not the fastest nor the slowest. The compression is 1/2 point higher than stock advertised. I do not have the time or money to put back to factory specs. Also I drive my car on the street and alot of new car's will suck the paint of the old ones. I still have some pride so making mine slower won't work for me. But I do understand Dan And Bob's position, but if totally deliverd stock is in Im out.

You'll still come as a spectator and have a beer with me, right? :beers2:

After further consideration of my earlier post, I agree with Tim Clary and Kidsixpack that returning their cars to "pure" stock or detuning them is a burdensome task - practically, financially, and emotionally (pride).

Maybe the race evolves and is broken down into two classes like some car shows are done (concours restored, restored, modified, etc.)...

Class 1: Pure or Concours Stock:
Bone factory stock - no mods from factory

    Class 2: Stock
NHRA legal and small mods allowed - as the rules are currently

Some guys (impartial, and knowledgeable about certain brands, etc.) could serve as officials to keep everyone on the up and up, taking that burden off of Dan and Bob.

    Just thoughts....

Why would you need two classes when you are paired up with a car of similar performance for the shootout? For most pairings the cars are very close(a tenth or less)until you get to the top 5 or 6 cars.Is the top of the heap the root of the problem?

I'm not disagreeing with H just a different angle.

As far as outlawing Pertronix, dyno tests have shown it is not a performance advantage but more of a driveability improvement. The 2.5 exhaust rule is fine as is I think.Does anybody know of any cars that getting the "correct exhaust" is not possible or way more money than it should be?

Compression,Cam,and Heads are the main culprits I would guess.

    Dan and Bob -

Thanks for the event and the memories. I've never raced at the PSMCDR - I put a 455 in my '68 Buick back when I first restored it, and I could never see my way to giving up a second and a half in the quarter to take it back to stock specs.

I think this is a problem for lots of folks, right back to when Detroit musclecars were first built. How long did any of them stay stock? "Day two" had all kinds of high performance and dress up parts installed. Heck, probably 98% of the cars racing at PSMCDR had to be "restored" to get them even close to stock. You can't go back in time, but the PSMCDR has been a valiant effort at simulating the sixties and seventies muscle car wars.

I always thought that the cool thing about the PSMCDR event was seeing the cars run, rather than seeing them at a show or in a museum. We all knew that there was tweaking going on, and the tacit approval of oversized exhaust, larger than standard tires, NHRA rebuild specs, and everything else was a compromise that was worth it for me.

I remember when the Brewer's dropped the pretense and published all of their Nova's secrets in Hot Rod. I remember when F.A.S.T. left the series (taking lots of excess testosterone with them). I remember when I knew the inside story on why certain cars were unrealistically fast (and kept my mouth shut).

I never saw any of the drama over the rules enforcement. That probably made the event a lot more fun for me to watch, and I appreciate that. I guess that all I ever wanted was to watch a good race, smell the rubber and the Torco, watch Benoit thrash to replace the rear in his Mustang, hear the stories and meet new friends. These really have been some of the most enjoyable weekends in my memory, and I would sure like to see the event continue.

I have nothing but gratitude and respect for the event organizers. Thanks a million.:TU:

    Dear Pure Stockers
We are still knocking heads over some of the rule changes for 2011. So please be patience with us for a bit longer. Thanks.
