A black zip tie inserted from the inside of the fenderwell so you don't see where the ends come-together is a decent substitute for the impossible to find plastic clips.
I found the correct pieces from Fusick. They seem like a pretty well run outfit. They got the order out really quick.
Cool! I didn't know anybody was repro-ing them. Does that car really scale at 3370?? Mine is 3780! and it isn't anything out of the ordinary. Well except for the 455, 200-4r and 12-bolt. But does have alum heads/intake and headers. Go figure. Come o think about it, I think we had this weight discussion last year....
Just finished reading your thread in LS1-com. Please Please tell me you painted the engine Buick Green! That would be just to coolest in my un-cool world. :TU:
My old 64 Special weighed in at 3730, so I did not believe it at first, so I weighed it on 2 more scales. It really is that light. We shall see what it weighs with the new motor and trans. I plan on painting the engine today actually. I thought about the green. While I like the nostalgia part of the idea, the actual color really does nothing for me. So, it is not looking good for the Buick green.
Oh I vote for the green! I think it would look great! Keep the purists happy, and keep the hot-rodders happy too!
There is nothing about this swap that will ever make a purist happy. Hmmmmmm. Buick red. This could happen.
Stop what you are doing, throw that POS motor in the dumpster and My GOD,put a damn 455 in it. Don't be afraid to spend a kazillion dollars on the engine and swap pieces. How dare you bastardize a Buick with anything but a Buick motor..I am sure the know it alls will be along from the LS1 VS 455 thread at any moment telling you just exactly why they don't care and how you should spend your money...Dumbasses they are...sheesh I think you will be making a neat car with new drivetrain and different.I like the idea of the newer motor and can't wait to see how it turns out, others not so much though...
I liked it until he wouldn't paint the engine green. :ball: I hate when people treat their own cars, well, like their own cars! :Smarty:
Bingo!!! It's your car and you're never going to please everyone. I know, I put a sbc in mine because, well, it needed an engine at the time and that's what I had, and I have been ridiculed many times for it. The bottom line here is it's my car and I really wish people could respect that. I don't ridicule other people for painting their cars non-original colors just because I don't like it. I've had a ton of fun with my little motor, put 8,500 miles and 105 passes down the 1/8 miles track with it in the past three years and it still runs perfectly and gets 15mpg when I can behave myself with it. I've been buying 455 stuff for 2 years with the intention of getting a Buick engine back in the Buick, now I wonder if that plan is the right move. I like to drive the car, and my wife likes to drive the car, and the sbc I have now isn't quirky so it makes it easier for her to enjoy the car than if it had a more tempermental motor that we all know some of these higher horsepower engines can be. What kind of gas mileage can a person expect out of a 450hp 455? I'm guessing a single digit figure. I read of a `65 Chevelle 5.3 swap with an LS6 cam that made 326rwhp and gets 26mpg. And yes, I realize that's not exactly a stump puller and that it wouldn't have the torque of a BBB, but please, everyone, it's not my intention to slam Buicks here on a Buick website, but ask yourselves this: If you wanted to go for an all day cruise in your classic Buick, would you prefer it get 26mpg or 8mpg? I'm seriously considering selling the 455 stuff and going the LS route myself. :TU: :TU: Steven, it's your car, paint that motor whatever you like.
Geesh guys... granted there's been some teasing but I think we've posted nothing but positive comments here
It's all good. Even the "other" thread is all good. The motor is all taped up and waiting to go in the booth. Hopefully this afternoon.
Cant wait to see it.. Im kinda jealous.. I wanted to swap motors in my 72 Thats gonna be one clean engine bay :beers2:
