lets see, got back from New Mexico this past Sunday so now it's getting both cars ready for their races. The W-31 is ready to road test, which there's a good chance I'll be doing tonight after reinstalling the console and putting GOOD fuel in it. I believe it has bad race fuel in it.

For the GT-37, I got my set of polyglas so those will get mounted and balanced most likely next week. A friend and I started the rear axle assembly last night only to find out the new pinon nut in the Yukon Gear kit has the wrong thread pitch    So I need to make a phone call this morning. I also started tearing apart the car to fix a trans issue which I will be completing this weekend. Good thing I started early, because like I said, murphy has made an appearance.

Finally got a few miles on mine with the new trans and clutch. Trans seems fine, but definitely shifts different from the Mincie. Maybe I'm too gentle with it...

The clutch, however is very touchy. Being a new Centerforce, I can't seem to slide it like I did the old one. Grabs quick. This is not good in my car.

BTW, that old Centerforce still looks great and will be going in the 66. Only changed it because of the input spline difference.

So....another clutch adjust, oil change, connect the E brake cables and speedo, and it'll be on the trailer on its way to Byron to the Fall Olds Nationals on Friday.  See what happens there. :Do No:

Wow, I thought I had a lot to do!

I have (or will have done by next Friday) in the last month:

New roof skin and fabbed up w/s & rear glass moulding clip pins
Paint top, install glass and mouldings
    Restored wheels & trim rings
    Mounted new redlines
    New rad & heater hoses
    D/S loop
New exhaust (manifolds to tail pipes)
    Pump to carb fuel line
    New starter
New battery cables & battery tray
    Fabbed overflow bottle

Probably more but it's just a blur now... and she'll STILL be one of the more "cosmetically challenged" cars there. :ball: Gotta start somewhere.

Hope I make it, that was a lot of work (and $) just to end up watching everybody else having fun for another year!

No thrashing on the red '57, broke it in Columbus at Ford EXPO, won't make it this year.:ball:

Sorry to hear that Frank. Hope I don't encounter similar problems with my car as I'm taking it to Byron, Ill this weekend to work with the new drivetrain. I don't expect it to be any faster, may even be unmanageable as I took off the no hops when I changed the axle. If it starts bouncing around like it used to (violent) it's on the trailer and probably not at Stanton either. Fingers crossed.

What went on the 57? Hope it was only the 3 speed and you put in a good automatic.  That car would really fly and not just at the top end. But does it ever when it gets wound up.........:bglasses: :bglasses:

    Todd:

Gawd that's a lot of work in a short period of time. Hope you make it.

I've been looking for a truck to tow the trailer, too and it's all come down to the last few days... I have a backup car for racing, my wife's 71 GT-37, so even if the 69 doesnt quite make it, I'm good to race but with no truck to tow with... well you know

    Dave,
Took out the driveshaft. Went 13.55 with a HUGE bog, first time out on slicks. Tried 5000 leave, broke stuff. Better parts on order but I won't get it done by Stanton. The auto is under SERIOUS consideration. All of the F codes ran the Fordo's back in the day, time to learn the lesson. :idea2: The column shift cars have major handicap against the 4 gear cars which ARE allowed to upgrade the shifters, The automatic cars which can do shift kits and slightly looser convertors. Three speed on the tree cars like Brian's and mine have to run 50 year old shifters. With one leg it's time to try something else.

I think there'd be a lot more drivetrain failures without these Polygas type tires. I run Chev 12 bolts (have 3) with the old C clip design, but wouldn't think of doing that without the conversion if I was running better tires. I have a serious problem with tire shock and bogging when my car hooks. Not as good as JJ in sliding the clutch, and damned if I'd wear any of those fruity cowboots!

Agreed on the 3 on the tree linkage handicap. Not much you can do. Ii demolished many transmissions on my old flatheads years ago thanks to that linkage.

Hope you can get the Fordomatic in there. Your car will be killer then. We used to drive them and shift manually by starting in low, click up to drive to shift, then yank it back in low to keep it in the 2nd range longer. Also worked on my Dad's 55 Olds with the old mechanical 4 speed automatic.....for a while, sometimes went kablooey!

Chris, not very well.Late 2007 early 2008 was a disaster for me and my family. The move to North Carolina didn't work out.I didn't get to much done in the last seven months.

Sorry to hear that, Noel. Going back to Akron? See what happens when you go over to the dark side and betray your beloved Ponyaks to enter the dark side with a couple of Oldsmobiles?...no matter how neat they are.

Best of luck, tough times all over the p[ace right now.
