True but don't condemn the carb when it it not tuned for the combo . A Holley will give bad results also when not tuned for the combo . Thats the point I am trying to make .
Wow, the bottom end torque is very promising and even with a mild cam and no head porting your 350 engine is loving that 850 cfm carb! Power band is much broader with the X-factor over the stock intake and looks to be no trade off for lower end torque, so at least on your combo you have a better street settup pulling harder at low rpms then you had before! Good job sticking with it Cason, you are a true "car guy". Regarding the Q-jet, there was something wrong from day one with that Q-jet... The air/fuel ratios were way off and that was with pretty much the same jets/rods as my John O Q jet had and I had great air fuel ratio with pretty much the same combo so something was wrong there. Anyways, you have it sorted now and the 350 seems to love the 850 cfm anyway so just keep on tuning that baby!
Indeed! Car guy to the core! Somebody needs to help Cason get some ported heads on that sucker so he can feel the intake pulling like an aircraft carrier launch clear over 6000rpm!
Went to the track again tonight and made a best of 14.6. The only thing that made me go faster was the weather. The car refuses to be quicker. I am not sure what the problem is.o No:
What gear are you in, and what RPM's are you trapping? I'm willing to bet that the convertor or rear are preventing that intake/carb from shining. I went from a 14.08 to a 13.40 by going from a 2.93 open to a 4.10 posi rear on a stock (top end)455 with headers. Added an SP1, Holley 850, and a move to FL(sea level air:Brow: ).. and got low 12's and even a couple of high 11's:eek2:
I'm trapping around 3k RPM in 3rd. I am using 22" tires. I'm looking at 200r4 transmissions right now:TU:
At 3k are you in the power band of the intake. This is not a derogatory statement only my thoughts. Might want to bring the rpms up. :TU:
There you go... you're trapping before your powerband . A well built 200R4, with a nice convertor and you'll be sitting pretty:TU:
I'd also look at a 3.42 as well. That 200R4 with that rear gear will be a dog on the HWY. a stock GN D5 convertor, built 200R4, and a 3.42 posi rear... and you'll be good. Why don't you just send me the intake and carb... I already have all that in my Cutlass.... hmmm... LOL. I'm keeping an eye on you. Have you thought about making any to sell??? I think that would go very well with the Twin setup:Brow:
Oh yes, I'll be throwing in some 3.42s. Anybody ever used a TCI Streetfighter 200r4 trans? Where do you get a converter? Mark Burton (Justa350) makes these intakes:TU:
I run a 2004r with 390 gears and a 10" 3000 stall lockup convertor. It is fun on the street behind my 449hp 350.
For 200R4 peeps... go on the Turbobuick.com board. They'll know who the good builders are:TU: some are even on the board... don't know if they're on here or noto No: Good luck:3gears:
Well, I've ordered all the stuff to put in a 200r4, and I hope to have it done by the middle of next week. I also have a contact that will be installing 3.42 w/ posi after I put in the trans. I really need to consider slicks now also. If you run slicks your car goes to the front of the T&T line at the track:laugh:
Glad to hear it. My money situation is getting much better- I've got a link in my favorites to the R&D account and will be contributing to it soon.
I considered it, but the 200r4 does already have a lower first gear and I still drive 50 miles to the track so I want those RPMs Low. However, the difference should still be dramatic.:Brow:
