Thinkin' Bout 400

I would love to say that my Riv makes 400hp to the wheels or in my case wheel. I pretty much just finished my 464:
    750 cfm q-jet
    B4B intake
    10:1 new pistons
    Block bored .040
Everything balanced, checked, and repaired if needed or new
TA 288-94h with lifters, springs etc. to suit
    Shorty Headers
2 " dual exhaust all the way through
    2500 stall
1967 430 heads repaired with some valve work

So my guesstimate before I take it the dyno is like 350/360 wheel hp. I'm thinking "where can i get another 40-50 hp without ripping out my new engine again?" Here's what I think:

    Electric fans
    Aluminum Radiator
    Electric Water Pump
    930 cfm Holley
Some rocker arms with a nice ratio
    Posi
    A nice new ignition system

Probably won't be enough to get to 400 but without knowing what I have now who knows maybe maybe not any other modifications anyone knows about?

    Thanks
    Zach

Sound like you got a nice set up. I'm not really an expert but small things such as using Royal Purple synthetic oil, maybe a carb spacer, plugs, Like you said even ditching the fan for a serpentine belt system can free up power. (adding the electric fans)

Usually a lot of small things add up right?:Do No:

    How about some Pics?

If you want 400 HP, you'll probably need to do some port work on the heads.

Also oil heat extractors, yeah hoping the little things can add something. As far as pics, hope these work.

Well taking off the heads is a pain, but I was going to take off the headers to bead blast them, re-coat, and wrap them in heat tape. Maybe while they're off I can take the heads off for a port and polish job and a repaint, plus I'll want to put new rocker arms on, whats a good ratio? and what does porting usually run you? Thanks

wow 1300 is that a deal? seems kinda high, but I guess for a stage one conversion it might be worth it from people who know what they're doing. What would i need to do to convert them to stage 1 heads myself. I have 69 430 heads

Thanks very much for the kind words, to tell the truth I'll have to take another look at tire size, they came with the car when I bought it a year or so ago. Looks like I'll have a stage one 464 by the end of next summer, I'm pumped! What's your build?

Mainly Stock 1970 Buick 455 out of a lesabre, I still can't find the #'s though. I recently got a stage 2 Q-jet from Jet performance. I'm priming it black for now, changing tires, restoring rally wheels. Upgrading exhaust, and pulling engine to fix an oil pan leak (center sump :() going to go ahead and repaint it since the mechanics didn't prep it enough. I'm going to start a thread to post progress.

Rare parts, shaft kit and center link, Replaced front bumper, added a tach.
and just today finished priming the hood and fenders.

    It's getting expensive!:eek2:

You know it! I spent more than 6k on the engine project total, but I put together a fine engine totally worth it, no leaks or nothing except for that initial over-heating problem, but thats a different thread lol! So have you ripped it up this summer any?

Wanting to change the exhaust system or at least weld in new mufflers that sound Loud but not too annoying. Something Cheap, might look like a sleeper beater looking primed car!

started on it when I was 16, I got the car for free working with my father when I was 12, around 2002.

Takes time and patience, I had to rebuild the original q-jet over 4 times! It was just an exhaust leak though! ha it's been great working on it, it gives me something to do, plus the girls like it! Not only that but it's my first car, Too bad I won't be able to drive it to college everyday. GAS :blast:! Pretty quick and good at one legged Burnouts! Need a Posi.

Man I'm glad I'm in Chicago or else I would be driving everyday in that Cali weather and that would kill my wallet so bad that I would never be able to afford anything for the car! I got it when I was 20 in, well last summer and did the whole project with my dad in the winter, very cool to know there is more people out there working on Rivs like me! Keep her running good and ride like the wind!

    chryco63 14's or bust!

Stage 1 conversion doesn't require any porting, just bigger valves. Although, the porting certainly wouldn't hurt. :TU:
