Most important thing is to get em squeaky CLEAN first, regardless of what tire product your preference is !! o No: 'No touch' was my preferred, till I tried Simonize Foaming Tire Care - same process, spray it on, let sit for 10 minutes till foam dissipates, then wipe with a mf cloth. What you end up with is a nice dull solid black finish with absolutely NO SHINE whatsoever - that WET look just doesn't do it for me !! :TU:
All car painters hate tire dressing ( Hugger ) So do I !! I use tranny fluid on my tires . Doesn't dry them out like other tire shine. Tire dressings and tire shine have been ruining paint Jobs for 30 yrs!
to the OP, I have used armor all for 35 years and never seen it hurt the rubber. I have heard the same rumors but haven't seen any sign of this being fact. As for the look...years ago when everyone used armor all, I would hand rub it into the rubber. results were a clean deep black with a semi gloss shine and no one knew how I got them that way. now I just clean them real good and let them roll.
No big fn of shiny tires anymore. use regular old brake clean on my tires now. Super white white walls and clean rubber. They look new when done.
I use the Griots vinyl/rubber dressing after using the rubber cleaner. Nice satin finish. Avoid the no-touch tire slime, it only attracts more dirt & grime...gets the wheels all nasty-looking, too.
I used Westley's for years to clean my tires..Although it's not very friendly on the new polished aluminum wheels, so I switched to Armor all cleaner. Armor All make a good tire cleaner that is aluminum wheel friendly. As far as tire shine.....I like "No Touch" then wipe it off with a clean rag. I'll use any type of tire shine to completely cover my ATV...naturally,,not on the seat or controls..makes clean up a breeze.
