Great running Rusty and all. Got your phone message, does sound like you put it back together right and have a bracket racer on your hands.

Now get busy with "that tuning ****" in the immortal words of Detweiler.  You need a 12 real bad! Loosen up them valves, throw in some 110 and bump up the timing. CC rods in the carb, etc. etc.

Or a massive weight loss program for it. You can put the stuff back on it later!

Sounds like a good group. Glad to see Wayne and Joel made it. Was Johnny Cat wrenching for Rob's Dad Tom?

Johnny Cat was nowhere to be see. Tom's runs were straight out of the box!!!

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to blow it up! I was going to light pedal the first run, but as soon as the track had a good bite the throttle went to the floor and stayed there!!!! I will maybe tune a little, but I am happy with the way it was running in the heat and corrected altitude!!!:3gears:

Kurt Karch, he's the 69 H/O advisor. His car ran it's best ET with the current carb. He ran a 13.4 with a borrowed carb at Stanton a few years ago.

There was supposed to be a 3rd 69 H/O there but I guess he never showed.

It was VERY humid but still a great time. Most importantly, my girlfriend enjoyed it and wants to come with again to other events. Thanks to Steve Hodges for the shifter help. I was having shifter/linkage issues all day Sat. The first run was my only one where nothing went wrong. Well except for the fact it was a little down on et and mph. Two other runs I couldn't get 2nd gear. One run, I grabbed second and third with no issues, but the car hesitated in both gears.

Sunday, made some tweaks to the shifter body and linkage. First run, grabbed all gears with no problems and had my best run of the weekend. Got a litte of my et and mph back but still off from Martin and Stanton last year. Second run Sun, no second gear issues, but the car just wasn't pulling in second. I've also found out I'm fogging for mosquitos pretty good in second and third gear. She's definitely wounded, so lets hope she holds together for Martin. I will be swapping out the f-body shifter body before Martin, along with changing what apparantly is still a bent rim (thought I had it fixed but we'll look into it again). But I have a working tach, although the car ran much better without it and I was shifting by ear

The only reason I ask is a friend of mine is working on a 66 sedan L-79 clone that might be ready for Stanto '09.I'm sure he would be interested in some info on it.

The L79 you are talking about at GIR is mine. Rusty reminded me about this site Sunday at the race. The last time I was on here was 2005!! Sorry about that but I've been a little busy.
I finished the car mid week before the race. Got to street drive it about 30 miles and never at a track until Sat's qualifying . Gear box is far from broken in, stiff as can be. I wound up on radials after going through 10 Firestone and 5 Goodyear bias ply's and all were defective, problem with the tire molds and now a subject of a national re-call.
I'm learning how to drive the car and I don't think I embarrassed myself too much. Every run I made I improved so I'm going the right way. Best was 13.742 and a 2.103, 60' time and best speed @ 102.52. Turns out the scale I used to weigh the car was not calibrated correctly when I weighed it so I'll have to update that in the future. The car has lots of potential so it looks to be a fun summer ahead.
To both Steve and Rusty my thanks for all their hard work that went into organizing the event. Everyone I talked to was having a great time. I'll be at Martin. Unfortunately my flight schedule doesn't look like it will permit me any track time before then.

Rusty & Steve (and anyone else who had a hand in it!): thanks for putting together another great weekend, wish I coulda stayed around longer but I didn't want to miss 2 straight Sundays! Even though Gateway lacks the nostalgia of KCIR, the new surface and the rest of the 1st class facility more than made up for it! But there's nothing like a bunch of old school race cars to get your blood pumping!

The old man had a BLAST! It did him some good to get behind the wheel of the yellow car, if even just for a few passes...the only pass the car made on Sunday was a 12.23, so it looks like the car hasn't skipped a beat since we put it to bed last fall...just wish dad woulda took all of the junk out of the trunk first! Thing mighta went 12.1x...?!

Rob, the old man drove that yellow car like a man possessed. Don't forget to wipe off the drool spots from my son & I while we leered at your ride. We had a blast with everybody, let's do it again!
