Brian, I just resized and sent the pics back to you...it's your thread so I figure you can post....by the way, COOL pics!!!!
All the pictures are of the Late Dick Baker, from the Columbus Ohio area. Was a GOOD Friend of mine when I started racing Buicks in the early 70s. His Son, Billy, Runs a G/SA 71 GS & is one of the LAST remaining 455 cars, STILL Competative. His Son Bobby, runs Dicks Former SS/X Record Running Regal. Ed Balling's, 4spd. Convertible is one of Dick's old Cars. Dick was Sponsored by Len Immke, and was a close friend of the Immke Family since the early 60s. Dick held MANY NHRA National Records Driving various Buicks, and is SADLY missed by those that knew Him. Bill Wills
cool stuff Bill Hi Bill, Moving stuff and quite a testomony to Dick Baker! :3gears: The earlier reply that mentioned Dick being on his own except for the basic car is evident in this next photo. The old Chevy truck has no lettering on it at all. A big thanks goes to Brett! :TU:
I met Dick several times myself when I was just getting into racing Buicks, back then it was'nt cool to race a GS,we sure surprised a lot of folk though. He helped me a great deal with my many novice questions,I always enjoyed watching him race. gary
Perhaps the best is last! Looks like this sort of contest was going on long before "Musclecar" magazines! Dick Baker's name is clear in this photo. Thanks again Brett, nice job!
IMMKE Buick One of the Immke cars is sitting in a junk yard in Belle Valley, Ohio. I believe it is a blue car. It has been offered to me on a couple of occassions, but i felt it was too far gone to redo. John
Brian, You're welcome! I gotta be honest, I can't even imagine having a dealer give me a car like that to race...that must have been awesome!!! Does anyone know if these cars were all automatics or were some of them 4-speeds?? :3gears: :Brow:
John, Which car is blue? Are there 2 '71 cars? Can you share a picture of it or add details in case someone wants to step up and save it? BTW-your 70 is beautiful!
Those pictures are way too cool!!!! Brian,if you could resize the rest of the other cars you posted before that would be very much appreciated. I see that Len Immke put a lot of thought of having his race cars reflect the "Light Your Fire"theme. How cool is that?!!!!! Thanks for sharing these very rare Buick pictures of the past with us. :TU:
Awesome pics love the wheels on that flamed car.Does anybody know what kind- if someone still makes them?
Car in parts yard.... Right now, I understand that BelleValley is under water. Where the car is won't be, but the rest of the area is. First chance i get i will find out which car it is, what year (i am positive it is a '70), and try to get up and take some picks. John
wheels CPK71- Those wheels are Motor Wheel Spyders, makers of the Buick ralley wheel and other factory wheels. Oddly enough "Pop" Kennedy used those wheels on his Reynolds sponsored Stg2 car. I have some old photos that Don Reynolds sent me (for my restoration project) of that car with the wheels from 1970. Since then I had found five of them for this car. Guy
Yeah, COOL wheels! I need 2 15x7 5inch bolt circle Spyders to compete my set for my 'Cat. Don...any leads? LOTS of CASH$$$$$ waiting for the right wheels. Peace WildBill
I know someone here posted this question, but I too would like to know if any of these cars exist today. Would be pretty neat to see these cars show up at our meets. Definately Buick history.
Brian: Thanks very much for posting the pictures. You really made my day. Are these for sale some :Comp: :TU: where? I would like 8X10's to hang the garage wall.
Excellent! I'm really looking forward to seeing your car next year,Guy. When Guy brings his car next year, get your cameras ready. :TU:
I posted a link to the original eBay auctions and saved some on my hard drive. Here's a good one that I haven't seen yet
