I have a friend that has a couple of distributors for a w31. I assume they have a special number but I really do not know. Does a Board member need one to complete a car? If so, send me a pm with the distrb. number you need.

In 69 its the same number as a regular 4bbl. I'd assume 68 and 70 are the same way.

68 is unique to Ramrod, I believe, due to the advance curve. I'll check the number of my original one tomorrow.

As far as I know, the 70 was the same number as a regular 350.

    1111975 is correct for '70 310 horse and W-31.

    Don't tempt me, Stefina! :Brow:

Brian, typing, on a Monday after an Ohio race? Am I to assume no trips to the ER?!

My Ramrod came with a 1111299, and i thought it was unique to W31 because of the advance curve. Don't have the part number of the 310 HP one in front of me here.

    Rob:

I pitched in on the dual disc topic on Supercars this AM. Don't know a lot about them, know they had low pedal pressure and were indestructable. W31's didn't use them, though, to my knowledge.

My brother and myself were in the local parts store today when the owner told us about a car we might want to check out. A 1970 W-31 with all body work done and ready to put back on the frame which is also finished. $10,000 just in paint work alone so far!! Rebuilt original engine with matching Muncie (love those 4 speeds). We are going to look at the project tomorrow. Wish us luck.

You've heard of "hunt and peck" typing? Brian got pretty good at "nose and pecker" typing last year.

    Hey Brian,

Here's another from my grandson to you:

We looked at the W-31 today. It is a work in progress. Bare body on rolling chassis. So far it has been frame off restored. Nice work on frame and underbody. Paint is in original gold with black stripes and a very high quality job except for the front fenders. They are very slick, but are just a shade off in matching the rest of the color on the car. I don't think they would ever be matched without giving the whole car a shot again. :spank: A shame too.
The engine has been gone through completely. Special order W-31 pistons and cam were sent in from Texas at a cost of almost $700. It appears to be original and still has the big balancer along with alum. intake. He has well over $2k in the engine build. Detailed nicely.
Tranny is a non numbers matching M-21 4 speed that has been rebuilt completely. Almost $650 spent on the tranny. Detailed nicely. Rear may not be original, but is a posi 331 all rebuilt and detailed nicely.
Dash and column have been painted original colors and look good. Several trim pieces along with the console are also done ready to install. The rest of the interior needs finishing. Seats need everything along with headliner, carpet and panels. Original gauges with tick toc tac ready to install.
2 pieces of Cutlass parts cars come with it, but nothing much left of value except a 12 bolt rear.
Several boxes of parts are present, but I am sure there are several items missing because there always are in these deals. I didn't see the top of the breather and a repo. is almost $450. It needs chrome on the bumpers, although I did see a few chrome items that appeared new.

Like I said, the car has been done nicely so far with the exception of the F'ed paint on the fenders. :spank: He wants $13k for it all. He says there is over $19K in reciepts so far. What do you guys think? I can't be positive it is the real thing, but I am getting the VIN tomorrow (he has checked it and says it matches what could be a W-31). I tried the shutting the trunk, but with no interior in the car of course it sounds hollow. Also, there is no deadning padding, or fuel line to investigate. Basically, I saw a balancer and intake to help verify it being a W. No power brakes or air cond.

No build sheet either I assume?

I know you say it doesn't have the fuel line in it, but I recall from looking through the chassis book today that it showed a diagram including an extra clip along the frame for the line? It said W31 only.

Have all the clips been removed?

Caveat Emptor- Let the buyer beware-

Without pedigree, I think it's overpriced. No question it costs that much to do all that's been done, but it costs the same on any car (paint, body work, interior) whether it's worth $25 k when it's done or $15k when it's done. I'd be curious why he isn't finishing it. Sounds like project burnout, which I'm very familiar with having 2 of these undone in my garage.

Tom Miller sold his mint freshly restored 72 W30 last summer in the $15k range. It was a clone, but this car needed nothing. It was done.

BTW, both the sound deadening and the fuel line clip are a myth as far as I'm concerned. The only sound deadening deletes I recall are the training aid cars that are built in preproduction and on engineering releases and destined for sponsored race teams.

Not sure about that clip. I was responsible for fuel system assembly in the plant from 1969 through 1973 and I don't recall anything unique on the W31 fuel lines except that they were the only 350 cars to use the 400/455 fuel lines (standard 442 items).

Thanks for the input. I would love to have paperwork on this car.
