Received my two female latches today (along with the male part on the lid) and they fit perfectly!
Thanks guys (Alan & Tony) for the quick fix. $6.00 and problem solved!... SEE PICTURES BELOW...

Thanks for the leg work on this!...when I picked up my 69, the console lid was screwed shut, after removing the screw I found a picture of a stripper :) and the male part in the bottom of the box, the latch mechanism was still in place, however it seems the male part doesn't release when trying it ( off the lid ). This looks like a great solution. I'll try and find locally, if not I'll also place an order.

Well...now I have come up with an even better way to do this. I will take some pictures and respond in a day or so.
What I did was to use the female side of the latch and put it in place just where it goes...Then what I did was to install
a flat piece of sheet metal on the inside of the lid (and not use the male part of the latch). Behind that piece of sheet metal
I just installed a super magnet. The magnet grabs the female side of the latch through the sheet metal and works better
than the factory latch that always sounds like it is going to get jammed up or locked up. The magnet system works like a charm and has just the right amount of magnet pulling power to hold the lid closed. It is much smoother and a cleaner
working system than the last minute goofy system that Buick used from a cupboard hardware manufacture! I love Buicks
but they sure jury rigged this factory installed system from the get go.
