Wanted: 1) 1970 Hold Off Valve for disc brakes (sits under master cyl) 2) Rear delay valve, L-shaped, mounts on rear crossmember directly above rear axle, on the driver's side. 3) Possibly any other parts related to 1970 disc brakes. Thank you.
Rob Ross Rob,they are called metering valve on the top,and proportioning valve on the bottom. And the proportioning valve seatsin the front,on the bottom attached to the chassis.BrunoD
Hold off valve Rob, You might want to talk to Right Stuff Detailing at 800-405-2000. They advertise a new reproduction valve for 67-69 GM cars that looks exactly like the valve on the 70 disk brake Buicks. Part # PV 68. Cost $129.00 which includes the mounting bracket. Their shop is north of Columbus in Sunbury, Ohio. It appears to be the same valve as is on my 69 Z28 Camaro. Hope that helps you. Larry PS. Here is a picture of the setup on the Z28 for comparison.
Bruno, not according to these guys... http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=99953 Larry, thank you, I will give it a try!
Rob Ross Hi Rob,this does little to solve your problem, but as to the hold off valve I am correct and they are correct.1970 Buick manual on page 50-44 states[1-disconnect hydraulic lines at metering valve....Also a diagram at page 50-46 shows the hold-off valve as metering valve assemly.BrunoD.
I'm with Bruno - it's technically called a metering valve, designed to 'hold-off' the front discs until the rear drums engage (hence the term 'hold-off' valve'). I believe '69 and '70 Chevys with disc brakes used this valve as well (along with the 'kidney' style master cylinder) - it's definitely a good place to start :beer
It looks like Year One has them - $154 :eek2: It looks correct, but I'm not sure it is correct. Part # RSV68, for a 1967 - 1969 Chevelle. The Parts Place has a metering valve for $119 (for a '69 Camaro), but again, I don't know if it's correct - http://thepartsplaceinc.com/catalogprint.aspx?ModelID=3&Year=1969 Just search for 'metering valve'. '67-69 GM disc metering valves had the big nut on them, this is the style that is reproduced. From '67-70, there were various different metering valves for each year & division. As an example... a GTO used a different metering valve than a same year Firebird. Big car was another application. The '70 model versions did not have the big nut. Doing a concours resto & wanting a '70 version, I may have one. Have several large picklejars full of used metering valves immersed in brake fluid. Through the late 80's & up into the 90's, I wholesaled gobs of the '67-69 versions to a specialty rebuilder. :3gears: Roger
George George, where are these three parts located. I have 2 of the three but cant figure out where you get the 3rd from? Thanks
The one that everyone forgets is the rear "L-shaped" delay valve. It is behind the driver's side rear tire, just to the outside of the connection between the rear brake hard line that connects to the brake hose that goes to the pumpkin. See my attached picture, arrow indicates factory location.
Is that true with Chevelles and Monte Carlos also? I will have to look the next time I am in a yard that has these cars.
Yes, all 69-70 A-body models that I have restored or stripped for parts that had disc brakes had all 3 valves. Also, 69-72 Grand Prix and 70-2 Monte Carlo (G-bodies) use the same valve set-up for 69-70 models with disc brakes. All 69-72 Grand Prix and all 70-2 Monte Carlo had disc brakes standard from the factory and those models are basically A-bodies so all the options will interchange with A-bodies.
