3rd generation Christmas tree farmer up in NC. My grandfather was one of the first back in the 50's to grow Fraser Fir trees for that purpose. He is now gone, but my father is still hard at it with me and my bro.

I program robots to build cars. Spot welding, mig welding, stud welding, and sealing are a few applications. Cool job, but I put in over 80 hours a week quite often.

I am principal of a grade 6-8 middle school. This is my second career. The first was a dairy farmer in business with my parents- the same farm that 72lark references above.

I have also been trained and did the A.I. thing. All of my common sense and practical skills I attribute to my 25+ years on the farm. The principal that hired me to teach grade 8 math in November of 1992 with no expereince said, "If I could herd cattle, I could herd 8th graders, do you want the job?"

It is not quite that simple but very rewarding work! Just like farming, every day is a new and different experience.

I write building specifications for Architects. Hence the name Specman. Used to be a door knob salesman and hung a few doors in my youth.
Love the work and I get to work from home so the commute is easy.

I am now responsible for keeping an eye on my two sons who are partners in a family owned Auto Brokerage business.(financed by yours truelly) I created this business about 10yrs ago and my sons took it and ran with it.

Lots of paperwork and money trading hands, have to keep on top of that while they "Wheel & Deal"...........(get to use anything from a Benz to a muscle car to a Hoopty). I hate this business, but my boys have to support 8 of my Grand Kids and pay for their new houses.........so I must stay involved!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to run the aftermarket repairs and software support for Motorola in Asia Pac (networks, not cellphones). But a few months ago they gave me a new gig. Now I'm director of quality.

Been out in Asia eight years so far and am renewing my work permit in China now for the sixth year. Three years in Hong Kong before that.

Part time tour guide for visitors. V8 people welcome.

Right now? The angel of death.

I was promoted last winter to the Director of Manufacturing for a manufacturing company of about 550 people. It's a little bit of a trial by fire right now as we are going through a reduction of about 120 people due to one of our customers pulling an assembly line to Mexico. Gotta love NAFTA! :af:

I have been reshaping the organization and have to determine who stays and who gets laid off. Forget those nice terms like "re-engineering", I'm in charge of turning people out on the streets. It sucks and keeps me awake at night.

I am working hard at doing my best for the people that have to go by working with HR to get them into placement services. So far it is going as good as can be expected as I try to make sure I provide constant communication to the organization.

Once the last of the assembly lines move out (Sept 11th, how appropriate), I can get to work on settling down the organization and getting everyone looking toward the future. It's a real challenge right now, but I'm sorta glad to be the one selected for the task as I know I will give it my all and can be satisfied that I'm doing everything to make a bad situation as painless as possible.

BTW, this is my excuse for my SLOOOOOWWWWW progress on my GSX. I'm shot when I get home (late) every night.

Ken, big business is a pain in the butt. We should trade war stories over some beers. Fortunately for me, I've been on the growth side for most of my career. I'd not want to be in your shoes on the downside, that's for sure.

LOL, Ron. I've been working on my comb over and practice making my mouth look like a fish in the mirror every morning!

Mike, maybe we can catch up in Salem? I've strictly been on the growth side my whole career too.... that is, until now!
