    Hey Guys,

I saw the thread started about the fastest muscle car. Good topic, but I think the answer isn't too far away.

Looks like the guys at Dream Car Garage created a Muscle Car Shootout that is airing on SPEED and they used a Buick GS 455 Stage 1. Tons of torque and power, I think it has a chance.

    Check it out at www.dreamcargarage.com.

Do you guys think anything was left out?

Here is where you can check out the info on the shootout

Also check out this muscle car showdown.
    Right after the V10 Viper you'll find a Regal T-Type and a GS455.

I'm sure you'll get lots of unbiased answers from this dispassionate group.

    Let me start.

The 455 Stage One is not only the best car of all time, but is propbably the pinnacle of human achievement. Easily surpassing space vehicles such as the Shuttle and Apollo in comfort, clearly beating out air travel in terms of fuel economy, and definitely a superior ride to all other land crawling vehicles.

In fact, when compared to other muscle cars most judges at car shows are completely preplexed. The sheer superiority of the Buicks often forces them to place the Buicks in a completely separate class, since to have the boring old Chev and simpleton Dodge products compete would ruin the contest as the Buick swept the awards. It has been univerally agreed by muscle car enthusiats that if they could just crush up a few of those common chevelles to make just 1 Skylark they would gratefully do it.

A small chain of buddist monks upone driving one claimed to have found Nirvana. Simple questions like "What Is the Meaning of Life?" are easily answered when driving a Buick. Traffic has been known to clear a path, and small parades often form behind the car in celebration of the Buick's passing by.

...but I'm pretty objective, so you may get better answers...

Can you beleive I won't be blackmailed by my cable company into getting this channel!?!

Personally, I think that the Hemi 'Cuda is the fastest in the quarter mile when optioned correctly. The Stage 1 is in maybe the top five as number 4 or 5 in my opinion, in stock form.

In modified form, well, the Buick 455 has tons of advantages including light weight and good metalurgy that make it a very attractive powerplant right from the factory, and then team that up with the proper parts we have now and you've got a real good go-fast toy...better than the Hemi 'Cuda in similar tune? Could be. They used to be pretty close before we had many of the parts that we can enjoy now.

    Erik-

    cool article!

    But two complaints-

The Viper is demonstarbly not a muscle car- it competes in Sport Car classes in professional races against cars that are also sports cars. True, the Trans Am series in the '70s blurred that line, but no Road Runner or Chevelle competed in TA events, either. Putting the Viper in that test is stacking the deck just a bit, even if you only classify it as a sports car because it is a two seater.

TThey have some of the GS facts wrong, but whatever...

But the other main thing is they talk about "60s and 70s muscle cars" and pitting them against the cars of today, and then they toss in the Grand National, from the '80s!

  9. gs4u2c

    gs4u2c Is that a 442?

    My honest opinion.

    Nope, not the fastest.

    :Do No:

But it will run with the best and under practical street conditions from block to block will win more often than not.

And of course does it with class...:Brow:

As far as the show I'll go on a limb and say:

    0-60 mph acceleration 1st Place
    Standing mile 2nd Place
60-0 mph braking test 3rd Place (if it has discs)
    Slalom handling test 3rd Place
    Burn out contest 1st Place

30 points may be enough to take the prize!

The problem is nothing is stock anymore...its always a money competition. I hope the Stage 1 does well but they will probably bomb it like "my classis car and a really bad moustache" did that time, remember??

Hell I know guys with talons that run 10's so its all quite pointless anyway. Enjoy ALL the cars for what they are.....very, very cool machines.....

    Later

Hi guys. I believe the Buick used in the Dream car Shootout is my old Stage One Convert, I sold it last fall to Bill Ackerland who has ties to Dream car. We ran the car at our local drag when we had it. It ran a 13.61 on a 85 degree and 80 percent humidity night. My understanding is that it took second at the strip and first in the handling. Here is the way the contest should run. The 0-60 1/4 mile slalom and braking test should all be combined into one crazy event!!! Lets see those cars slalom at 75+ mph!!! and then slam on the brakes at the end of the 1/4 mile! That would be great!

P.S. Although I don't ahve the particular car, here is what I heard.

When confronted with what the designers had wrought, they stood back in amazment at the pinnicle of perfection that lay before them, as if God himself had worked through their hands to create, no, give birth to the beast before them. No mere car was created that day, a legend was born, and when you stand on an empty road, the wind seams to whisper the word " BUICK" to which the road longingly responds.... "GS 455 Stg1"

    That's almost as good...

I nominate Clint's post for post of the year!

I just want to add one little note...

The Classic Battle of Buick vs. the rest of the muscle car world isn't just some relaxed fun event...it's the cosmic clash between the forces of good and evil, with the fate of the universe resting on the outcome!!!! Buick has won, the universe is intact, the evil has been squashed......good has triumphed again!!

    Time for another Beer!:TU:

If I drive it, it may not win, but it'll surely need brakes when I'm done.
