I want to know where everybody started. Some of us have come a long ways from the very first run we ever made at the strip.
Like me for instance: 1st time in my 70 Stage 1 4-speed totally stock without a lick of tuning sense or driving ability, I ran 16:40 :ball:

Now I have run 13:02 with it about 15 years later.

My Skylarks first run ever was a 13:43 with headers
Now its best has been 11:51

My Wildcats first voyage down the strip was 15:89
its best has been a 15:40

So how fast was your first run?

87GN back in 93 ran mid 12s on street nights, 12 years later looking to put an 87T together w/455 for the spring and hope to knock off a couple seconds from the last time down track. :3gears:

My first in the Riviera was 17.382 the second run that same day was 16.353 and I haven't been to the track since. That was Basically stock with no racing experience. Since then I've put a posi in and I think I could go sub 16 with a little practice.

14.19 in my GS455 convertible back in 1990 or so at Milan Michigan. Stock except for headers, no clue what I was doing. Car has since run 12.96 with a bit af tuning and a few other changes.

Little confused, I started out Drag Racing for my high school at 16. First run ever was a high 14 on driveway built Chevelle. After high school was a 13 sec Mustang 5.0. At 22 it was a Mid 11 72 Nova with a small block. Now I am 30, building a big block buick, I would love to see high 10's low 11's. I am still small time, and probably will remain that way. Street racing is fun, but you need track time to see what you are really running.

    First Time...hmm...

BACK IN GOOD OL' SCRIBNER, NE...I think me and my 68' Riv ran a 16.20 with the original 430 and 3.08 open rear. It was a Buick-Olds-Pontiac event and the guy I ran in the finals, who was much older-faster-etc. said..."gee, I was hopin you'd run faster than THAT"...being about 17 I wasn't sure if that was a compliment or an insult. The thread starter above was there to witness that truly incredible run. -good idea Robert.

    Good old days. Corey!!!
I love to hear of the improvements we've made.

When I first bought my GS I thought it would run 13's easy "cuz it was soo fast" HA!
I didn't know what fast was, I guess.

My first pass was in my 73 455 regal it went 13.90 then eventually went 11.80 with some dead junk yard stuff.
My fastest pass has been 9.07 @ 155 in my buddies mustang.

Hopefully the 66 will do it's job and I'll have a new fastest soon

My first past was in my 69 GS 350 and was a 15.20. Did some fine tuning and was able to get a 13.79 out of here with a stock bottom 350 with a erson cam and a minor clean up in the heads. A t/a intake sat on top. Since then I've graduated to a 70 GS 455 now a 462 that ran a 12.59 first time out. Have been able to get it down to 11.79. Did more work to it and know hoping to run some high 10's at Cecil next week. :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: :3gears:

    69GS400s ...my own amusement ride!

In August 1993 I bought my '69 GS400 Convert, TH400, 2.93 open rear - everything stock with 98K on the car.

....gave it a SuperTune and went to the track about a month after buying it and it went 15.83

Several years later while collecting '69 meorabilia, I found a vintage 1969 Car magazine.

    They tested a 69 GS400 Convert., TH400, with 2.93 open rear

    The car went exactly 15.8

.....not tooo shabby for a 23 yr old gal with almost 100,000 miles on her :TU: :TU:

My first pass at a drag strip was in 1956. I ran at Central Michigan Dragway (now Mid Michigan Motorplex) They had a flag man for starting and you only got your MPH. They did not get clocks until a couple of years later. I ran a 32 Ford 2dr sedan with a flathead Ford engine.

I would like to run 7.07 @ 190 plus but I'll settle for a 9.06 the first time out.Of course to 7.07 will require the Bulldog block but for now a little buzzard 470 will have to do.

1973 at Detroit Dragway (No longer there :( ) in my 69 Custom S with a 350 4 speed built by Ray's Precision Engine in Taylor. Ran a 14.44 on my first pass and made it down to 14.21 which broke the record for my class. I still have the Holley certificate I got for that. Probably one of the coolest memories of high school since all my buds had went with me down there.
Fastest pass ever for me was 12.20 in a 74 GTO which we had implanted with a 70 455 Pontiac motor. Kinda miss those days. :bglasses:

First time was in a '91 Crown Vic Interceptor. Ran mid 17's at 85mph (no slips to prove it). I went through at the top of 2nd gear (it shifted into 3rd at 95mph). That's what I get for having 2.73's and a 28" tire. But it got 24 mpg. Damn good for a 351W 2bbl. It was my daily ride and it wasn't quick at all, but it sure was fast. Had it up to 130 mph once before I ran out of road. I hit 3 deer with it in 1 1/2 months. Sold it to my cousin for $300 and horsetraded for a bunch of stuff in 2001. He hit 8 more deer with it. He sold it a few months ago for $700. There wasn't a straight body panal left.

I had a 81 Crown Vic with a 351W 2bbl. It was a fun car to beat up and spin donuts. It managed a 18.05 stock and a 16.87 with bolt ons.

76 Century 350/350 is my current car, 15.34 stock, working on it now and hoping for 13's.

  18. daward

    daward Measure twice, cut once.

First pass down the track was with my '66 in 2001. The 300-2 went 15.8 or 15.9. With a TH350, duals w/ glass packs, and a '65 4v intake it went 15.1.

Its now a dead consistant 12.90 car at 105-6 with the same old SLOP 2.2 60's
I've learned 2 things: 2.78s will never cut below a 2.2, and Nitrous was hands down the best modification I've done... I love that Shhhtuff. :TU:

My first trip down a dragstrip was our local 1/8 mi strip. It was 1994 and I had a stone stock 1970 Olds Cutlass. I ran about a 10.80 something at 60 something MPH! That was 1/8 mi. When I sold that car in 2000, it had gone 11.41@115 in the 1/4 and 7.20 @93 in the 1/8. I finished 2nd in points in Pro ET (electronics) with that car in 1997. Two wins and one runner-up that year.

My current car runs quicker in a 1/4 than my first pass on an 1/8 mi.! That's called live and learn - and spend some $$$ too!

    Have fun.

Down a bumpy 2 lane road with a totally stock 76 Camaro; 305, 2bbl., auto, I somehow managed a 17.1. G-tec never worked right from the start, and I'm not sure if it was an accurate time.

Since then, a reworked 350, shift kit and stahl conv., I'm guessing somewhere around low 15's.

    2.73 gears don't help too much . . .
