    Mister T Just truckin' around

Way back around '79 or '80, I had a 66 Ford Galaxie with a somewhat warmed over '70 351 Cleveland 4 bbl, built up FMX trans, and 3:25 Traction loc.

That big old boat went low 15's and I really had no idea what I was doing. Basically just planted the go pedal, shifted @ 6000 or so, and hoped for the best. It disappointed me that it didin't hit 14's. Highlight of the day was racing my younger brothers 65 Mustang. (and beating him)

That was the first, and so far, last time down the track. :ball:

Shoulda ran my Yamaha V-Max before I sold it.

Shoulda also ran my old Mach 1 before I sold that.

Gonna run my GS next year, and probably get bit hard by the racing bug. :beer :bglasses:

    gotbuick What, me worry?

1987 High School drags. 1970 Skylark Custom. Ran a best of 15.48. Ended up in the top ten out of 350 plus cars. Good times. :)

    D BERRY 72 Skylark 2 DR POST

It's been so long ago that I'm not sure which was my first pass, I think it was my 69 Roadrunner. Had a stock 440 with headers and gears and went 13.35 with no MPH given. :Do No:

1971 or so in my father's 66GS Riviera, Great Lakes Drags in Union Grove, Wisconsin. 17s I'd guess. The track announcer was saying something about being surprised how quick it was for a big car when I came around for the second run. As far as I know, Dad never knew.

  5. Michael Evans

    Michael Evans a new project

My first time was a slow 9.65 in a 1972 Chevelle (in the eigth  ) have to go to Beech bend to get to the clostest 1/4 mile track.

One day I will run there.....................

The last time I went, I took the skylark to get a base and could only do a half-track passes because of fuel system issues and did a coasting 8.44.

    gscalifornia Small blocks rule!!

First time down the 1/4 for my '69 California was at the GS Nats in Beech Bend in '93. It ran low 16s at 88mph. I tuned the numbers matching block down to low 14s@94mph before pulling it out.

Fast forward to '04 in Salem at the BPG Nats and with a "new" '69 350 block was running 13.85 @ 98mph!

First pass (in the Chevelle pictured) was a 15.10. By the end of the day I was going 14.90's. That was in 1978.

That motor has gone as quick as 12.26 in Alabama a couple years ago.

Fastest the car has ever gone was 10.46 (went 10.50 this past weekend).

    436'd Skylark Sweet Fancy Moses!!!!!

My first pass was in a friends 71 Z28, its a drag only 10.5 car. I was up against a dragster- couldn't even hear the open header 377 in the camaro. I did a weak burnout, I cut a 1.03 light. Launch at 5300, shift at 7800. when the car shifted into high gear(powerglide) the tires broke loose and the car went sideways a bit (Read: I nearly pooped) I was way out of the groove. I wound up running 11.14@139 seconds, my only pass ever made.

My first trip to the drag strip was with a step side pick up (1976 shortbox) w/ a mild 350 and junk carb, 4.10 gears and a B&M shift kit installed in my driveway (my mom still complains about the mess I made), had fiberglass front end and 2 1/4 duals. Ran 14.40 and couldn't hear the motor cause was next to a monte carlo with open exhaust.........LOL

Second time out was with a homebuilt '74 camaro Z-28, thrown together 396 (ridiculous cam, home ported heads, big exhaust, lots of compression), 4 speed and 4.56 gears (ouch) Ran 13.69 at 109 mph (couldn't hook up with street tires)

Had an 87 GN that was mostly stock with nitrous (huge mistake!!!) ran 13.40 at 99......... hooked great, started boogying down the track and poped a head gasket. I was running aviation fuel and had boost cranked up to @ 20lbs when I tried the nitrous for the first time (stupid kid stuff, totally over doing it!!!!). The car never ran right after that.........

Now I have my 69 stage 1 project. I've had a few 69's with 455's and never took them to the track, but still had alot of fun. I finally have the means to build something fast, fun and decent looking, so hopefully I'll be out on the track by Dec or Jan (can run all year long in FLA!!!)
Looking for low 12's high 11's. SHould be alot of fun!!!!

    jamyers 2 gallons of fun

Last spring at the Buick Brand X Bash in Temple - 18+ seconds at 80 mph, with a LOT of wheelspin. Two runs later, I got it down to 16.2 @85. Not too shabby for a basically-stock 350 w/ a 3.08 open rear in a 5000lb LeSabre.

Hay Rob does street racing on Abbout Drive count. I did that in the late 70's and early 80's. Then in 86 or 7 went to BG for the first time with the Green car and ran a 13.42. Best time for that car was in mid 90's at BG it ran back to back 11;86's with two different drivers. Best time in street time this year was at Kearney 11.94. You could spend more money but you could not have more fun with a car. The neat thing is this is a old cast piston KB equiped car that has never had the rods or mains checked in 30 years. The times shown in my signature. That is with an old tired stock 455, TA c113 cam, Holley Street Avenger 770cfm carb, Edelbrock dual-plane intake, Kenne-Bell headers, TH400, 3.42 posi gears, MSD ignition.

The new and improved motor Rod H. is helping me build is a .020 over 430, TA413 cam, cast aluminum pistons, fully ported iron heads with stage 1 valves, should be about 10.5:1 compression. Cant wait to see this one scream in the Springtime!

I did the first run, just to get a baseline and see what sort of improvements will be made with the new modifications.

1983. My then bone stock '70 GS-455 went 15.41 at 93mph at Denvers mile high Bandimere speedway. 2.93s and all..............

Same car 22 years later.............went 12.85 at 105mph in Douglass, Wyoming.............

Gosh, at this rate it'll be 2022 before I get my first 10sec. time slip!!.........lol.....

    I Like Torque!!!!

When I bought my 71 GS clone the guy told me he took it to Norwalk for the nationals put it in drive & turned a 12.80, he said he had not changed anything. I was pretty skeptical since the car had 3.08 gear & some off brand 255/70/15 tires, but it did seem to be pretty quick to me. I drove it all summer, then i took it to Lapeer dragway MI, 1st pass 12.85!! Now I'm 75% done with a complete frame up resto with better headers, roller rockers, solid lift cam, & better tires, hope to see some 11s, dyno said 518 hp. I guess we'll see in the spring. :3gears:
