I bought some buick rally rims in a 5x5 bolt pattern, however, when i went to mount them, the stud does not come out far enough for the lug to grab on and fasten the rim down. if think its the back spacing of the rim. What can i do to get these rims on?? i have a huge car show this coming weekend and want to roll these rims. I heard some kind of adapter with longer studs would be an option? Please please please help ray:
Do they have a centering ring welded in the hub on the backside ? o No: . . . if so, just remove them - this will allow the rim to fit flat against the brake drum, and the studs should be long enough. :TU:
No, there is nothing welded on. I think they might just be too deep on the back side for the rim to fit all the way on. Maybe the drum doesnt clear the rim? this sucks! i only tried the rear not the front rims.
buickjunkie, im not sure what the back spacing is for the rims, however i was told they are from a riv. they look like this would a space fix this issue?
thanks for the info! Well since the rims arent meant for this application, being that the studs do not protrude enough, will the spacer fix this issue? i do have the proper fender clearence.
You have some issue going on that is not allowing the wheel to seat to the drum for the studs to go through the holes. Those wheels must not be large enough to go over the drums. I don't think it would be safe to use any adapter to try to get the wheels to work. Can you show a picture of how is looks when you are trying to get the wheel on?
damn. these are the same size as my stocks. just that the center of the wheel is a little more deeper than the stocks. ill try and snap a picture tomorrow. Ive been calling some shops and they say its not un safe to ride on adapters, but im still weary of it myself.
thapachuco..... I used that exact adapter, on the rear, of my 65 lesabre with the same wheel type, for years with no problems.... I used them for tire to frame clearance. It will push the wheel out 1". I still have the two rear wheel adapters if interested. Let me know. Tom:TU:
I've heard good and bad about wheel adapters / spacers. I'm in the same situation with my 67 LeSabre, I have a really nice set of 71 rally wheels. I'm going to try a 3/8" steel spacer and longer studs. Bruce
WOW another 67 lesabre, finally! Ive called around a few places and no one is confident enough to sell me longer studs, the book theyre reading from is giving them weird specs. i think i might go with the adapter. 5 days til the show...grrrr
thapachuco.... I would like $25 + shipping for the two adapters. The only problem is I can't get to it until Wednesday. Tom:TU:
Something isnt right here. You have a Buick and your putting on Buick rallys. They should fit right on. Instead of trying to get longer studs or adapters, I would try and figure out why Buick wheels dont fit your Buick. With studs and adapters, your asking for something ugly to happen
This should not be so hard. Rule out drum interference. If you have to, pull a front & rear drum, place some lightly crumpled aluminum foil around the suspect areas and push the drums down into the wheel. Where the foil flattens, it's a positive interference. If the foil does not flatten, interference in the areas where the foil was placed can be ruled out. Place foil in as many areas as possible for more data. Devon
