The problem could be a difference in disc brake wheels vs. drums. Sometimes they'll switch one way, but not the other.

i ordered some adapters. Ill be taking a closer look at this issue on wednesday. I think the back spacing on the rim is too much. My stock rims are not as "deep" as these rims. thanks for all the help so far!

i know the rallys were typically paired with disks, so this could be the issue.

If the problem is on the back drums but the front seem to go on all the way I agree it because of the newer wheels, I had the same problem on the wildcat with a newer set of rallys, on the back they hit the fins and the backing plates they fit on front but not a lot of clearance. On Mine the studs were long enough but the wheel would not seat up tight to the drum before it hit.

Incorrect. Buick rallys can be used with 4 wheel drums

Wednesday is do or die for these rims. Ill start with the front and see what happens.

what are the proper steps to removing and replacing drums? is it in the manual? i havent had a chance to look.

    thanks again fellas!!!!

If you PM me with email add. I will forward a copy of the Buick Road Rally Wheel guide from the Buick Bugle. Ive sent it to alot of guys and its really helps to figure out what you need, 14 and 15 inch wheels from 63 on. Or anyone else. :bglasses: I would like to add it to a sticky as it would help us all. If its possible let me know.

i had the same exact problem with my 69 cat, the rear wheels are hanging up on the drums, i bought wheels from a wagon i think that are 1" wider than for our cars and unfortunatly the 1 inch is on the backside causing the problem. CAUTION.. if the tire shop puts wheel wieghts on the back of side of the rim watch the wieghts don't hit the brake backing plates when the wheel rotates!!!
Run a 1 inch spacer and longer studs, you may have to modify the longer studs as the knurls may not match and the studs could be too long for the castled nuts. no sweat although, alittle grinding or filing on the stud knurls and they'll pound right in, lots of clearance for the tires and the stance looks good. Only you....and everyone else on the board will know what you did:Brow:
