I was just looking at a thread in the "Wet Behind The Ears" forum and Dewey was telling us that he just bought his GS 400 on eBay. I wonder how many of us have cars that we bought there.

In the summer of 2002 I bought my '69 Riv on eBay from a guy who sells old cars from a shop in Gettysburg, PA. I was looking for a Chrysler 300 rag top and stumbled on the Riv. I took me about 45 seconds to get bit by the Buick bug and fall in love with the Riviera. I've learned a lot about Buicks since then and have had no regrets that I never found the Chrysler. The pictures that are linked in my siggy are from the eBay auction.

I won a 63 wildcat just outside of town but when I went to pick it up discovered that it was in pretty aweful shape to restore so the guy was cool enough to let me buy his 69 electra instead. :)

My skylark I found through this board.

  3. Not ebay, but online. Autotrader or some such site? I wouldn't go that route again, but at the time, this board wasn't around, and I had not yet discovered the old GSCA site.

70 GS455 - Blue: Saw it on ebay, ended auction early, and drove 1600 miles to pick it up. Quite a risk but worked out very well.

70 GS350 - Aqua: Found it driving back from a burger joint one day, just lucky I guess (see most recent BPG newsletter for the complete story)

70 GS350 - Seamist: ClassicCarTraderonline, fantastic guy, the deal worked out great other than a slight motor problem :eek2:

My first 67 - My dad found it for me locally when I was 16 :)
Green 67 driver - Found online in NJ on a classic car lot. No ebay, no CCTO, just got lucky and found it by searching about 50 pages of hits on "1967 Skylark" on Google :gt:
67 'vert - eBay - got screwed (but I'm fixing 'er up anyways)
67GS400 - eBay - turned out as junk - parted it out, but wouldn't say I got screwed
71 Skyark - bought through this board - Love it!
70GS - eBay - got screwed again! But we're getting there with it.

I see a pattern :Dou:

I have to admit I was nervous buying a car that was 900 miles away with nothing more than pictures and a few phone conversations with the seller. You have to ask the right questions and make sure they have tons of feedback, all good. The seller told me to keep my money until I got there to pick up the car and if I didn't like it he would buy me dinner and drive me back to the airport.

i bought my 70 GS 350 on ebay. i was able to go and check it out before i bid and i'm very happy with it. i strongly recommend inspecting a car in person or having it done by someone you trust before bidding though. too many possibilties for a misunderstanding or fraud. my deal worked out just fine. this car will be offered for sale on this board very soon, i need to pay for the stage 1 resto, so i just cant keep them all.

I bought my 87 GN on ebay from Missouri, wasn't as nice as I had hoped. Had more rust on the undercarriage (not rust through, surface rust) than I had expected. Of course, I am used to west coast cars so I wasn't expecting much. Had to have new brake lines and fuel lines installed right after I bought it.

Bought a 71 Skylark Convert. on ebay, drove a couple hundred miles to look at it and ended the auction early. Was glad I looked at it, might have overpaid otherwise.

Bought my 69 out of the Little Nickel shopper. By far the best deal of the three. Most of the "good deals" I have found have been in the local newspaper, sometimes the autotrader. I definitely believe that if you are not the first or second guy to look at a car, it probably isn't a good deal (unless you make them a lowball offer and they take it).

    71GS455 Best Package Wins!

I bought my GS from the Auto Trader in 1998, but I sold it on ebay earlier this year. It went from one coast to the other.

There wasn't a winning bidder on ebay, but the high bidder ended up offering me essentially what my reserve was.

I lost the auction the first time i saw my white 74 lesabre vert.
i had put a bid in for $1500.00 and it sold for $1900.00
the car was in NH and i was near KCMO.
the guy who won it spent $800 to have it shipped to his house in KCMO. once he got it, he decided it needed too much work to be as nice as he wanted as soon as he wanted.
he put it back on th bay and ripped it in th ad. he talked it down to th point that he knew anyone who bought it sight unseen would not find him liable for talkin it up.
i went to his house and checked it out. it was somethin that i could definately deal with.
with 7 seconds left in the auction, i placed my max bid and won the auction at $605.00
drove it home, tagged and insured it and drove it for a couple months to make sure th motor and tranny was sound. then sold th 455/400 motor/tranny for $400 and put in the TBI350/700R4 combo.

my purchase gets 2:TU: :TU: thumbs up!

Well, I never bought a car off eBay but I've sold a few there (not all were mine)

    1971 Vauxhall Victor sedan
    1972 Vauxhall Victor Wagon
    1976 Jaguar 4.2 Coupe
    1974 Triumph 2500 Pi Wagon
    1975 Opel Manta
    1968 Rover 3500
    1962 Morris Minor

All of which the buyers were happy with.

A friend just bought a 1967 Vauxhall off eBay and seems happy with the deal.

    not ebay

But it was on line. The guy was advertising a nice Blue 70 GS 455 with white vinyl top and interior. Fully loaded for $10,000. This was in 2001. I called, it was sold, I said if he got another one (he was a "dealer"), to call me. A month later he calls, has a red with black vinyl top and interior. Buckets, AC, Auto, PS/PDB, gages, Ralley wheel, pictures looked nice and he talked it up good (fresh engine, new paint and interior, etc.) Now this was a rust free CA car in CA and I'm in VA, he's in Indiana...
Long story short, I get the car shipped and it is nice, but just, and it won't run over 30mph!!!! Carb rebuilt, tune up, TLC and it runs good. But he did stretch the truth - alot.
I was sweating bullets sending the EFT, waiting, watching for the truck, checking the weather (it was December)...I was a mess! :puzzled:

But its turned into a good car and I'm pleased, might do it again, but this time with the board's help!

  16. Helped my brother by a '94 9C1 off eBay: got screwed! It would have been worth what we paid had the car matched the seller's description, but the seller left out things like a rear door strike bondo'd on, a transmission with an huge gash on the top of the bellhousing, etc.

Bought my '64 from Auto Trader online and couldn't be happier... well, I would like a Wildcat!

I bought a Buell motorcycle on Ebay. it was listed three times and i bid the last two times (didnt see it the first time). it was in the days when unless you were pushed by other bid you couldnt reach the reserve alone.

it was at a small high end used car dealer in Ill. i called them and they quoted me a price over the phone but never went to buy it. on its third listing i was hi bidder and got it cheaper than they wanted to sell it outright for, they lowered the reserve from the time before.

they had 3 pics on the listing and it was exactly as described and in great shape.

i wasnt as worried since a motorcycle has a lot less parts than a car to be a problem and rust wasnt a concern.

now buick parts is another story, bought a few parts off ebay only been disappointed once. driver quality versus junk chrome must be hard to determine for sellers

Two of mine came from Ebay - both were "not as nice as I had hoped" but for the price I gave, they were fair.

I bought a '48 Austin Dorset (2 door coupe - gasser style) that's basically a rolling body. I could have gotten a much easier body for a street rod, but man oh man those old gassers get to me :) If I ever finish the other two projects, this one's going to be a blast. The trip back from VA was a dawn to midnight ordeal I wouldn't want to do again though LOL

ABout 18mo. ago I found a 69 GTX on Ebay that was local to me. Even after going and seeing it, I was screwed a bit.. but... it's a GTX :)

I'm sure my gf won't mind if buy a Buick off of there, too. hehehe

Got mine on Ebay about 1 1/2 years ago, price was right although the engine ended up being a dud (poor machine work), bought it using just pictures and got lucky on some stuff.
Definately allows you access to cars you'd never know of otherwise.
