Yes, I know we all think our Buicks are the best. But why? I love getting behind the wheel of a 34 year old car, and listening to the exhaust rumble, and smelling the ozone killing fumes:laugh: It takes me back to a less stressful time. What's your story?
My Car is as comfortable as a Cadillac. More options than I know what to do with i.e. headlight dimmer! But still is sporty, it has buckets and console. Enough power to burn some rice!!!Not to mention the style of the Boat-tail. What other car company came out with that combination?
Jamie P: Here in Hogansburg we like to say it rides like a Buick not a Cadillac. Hell i should be punished for putting them in the same sentence. Nothing rides like a Buick!!!!!!!!
So true. I apologize. It was just a figure of speach. As when a buddy of mine once said "That Lincoln, is the Cadilliac of cars." And he was serious. Maybe I should Hang with smarter people.
For me, it all started at an early age. My Uncle Jim had a 68 Riviera GS he bought brand new. I would always go over his house on the weekends as a kid. He'd always be doing something on the Riv. He would teach me how to adjust the carb, change the plugs, set the point gap. I remember him peeling out when he used to take me for rides in it. It made a lasting impression on me. It turned me into a Buick guy early on. When I turned 16, I found and bought a 69 Riv GS "just like Uncle Jim's". I brought that car to high school. I went on my first date with it. I even brought it to the Centennial. Everytime I get in that car, it reminds me of my younger days. There's alot of sentimental attachment to my 69 Riv. When my Uncle Jim passed on in 1999, my cousins handed me the keys to Jim's Riv. They said that he would have wanted me to have it. My uncle Jim's Riv means more to me than anything I could think of. Everytime I look at it , I can picture my Uncle sitting in the drivers seat with his sunglasses on and Elvis playing on the 8 track. The flood of memories are endless. theres been countless (literally) Buick GS's that have passed though my hands. I stopped counting at 40 cars about 15 years ago. One thing is for sure though..I will always have a Buick GS and my 2 Rivs Jason
I like my buick because in town like mine, it's a rare body style. Get's some attention:bglasses: :TU: -Cody
Cause my Buick floats like a caddy and stings like a HEMI. The look of awww on peoples faces in the rear view mirror when I leave them at the light, like they had the parking brake on. Its not a Chevy.
Because it is the most underated muscle car from that era. I also like having something hardly anyone else has. Finally,I like pulling in at a cruise night and having people scratch there heads wondering what kind of "Chevelle" I have. LOL
Why Buick ? First my dad always had one. And as I grow up I know why. Its smooth, not over done, shows class, not over priced, and get a lot of respect from others who own other brands. I go to car shows and had normal car guys tell me how much they like seeing different, and know what that Stage 1 badge on the front fender means :3gears: , AL
With my '65, I love when guys come over to me in the pits after I've made a run, and say to their buddy "See, I told you it's a Buick!" and the buddy just shakes his head and asks "What kind of motor you runnin'?". I love to see the look on their face when I tell them "Buick Car...Buick Motor!!" :TU: Just Priceless! Of course, that's when the obligatory..."My buddy's got a....... that runs eights too!" comes out. I always answer the same way: "Really? What's his name? Maybe I know him! Does he race at this track?" Of course, he never comes across with the info, since he's making it up! With my T/R, I love that it's a comfy luxury car that will DESTROY any possible competition I might run across, while I'm bringing my groceries home, minding my own business.
Alright, When I was 6 I wanted the General Lee, When I was 12 I wanted a TR 6, and When I saw the TV show Due South I had to have a Riv, it was my first time seeing one. My grandfather in his younger days said that he wouild some day own a Buick, and he did, and still does. I think that's where I get my General Buick Love. I had to have a boattail beacuse it is such a rare car. with only about 100 000 made in it's three years. At cruise nights myself and my girl always pick a "car of show" It is 100% personal choice. No matter rarity quality or age. I often pic a Buick (not always though) and she always pics one of the oldest cars there. The point? She isn't a car person but often says, "Hey look a (Mustang,Chevelle, whatever) don't see toooo many of those do you?" or "I can't throw a rock without hitting a ____" You can't say that about buicks, and seeing another Riv almost never happens. That and with an almost 6 foot hood. When I line up with a Honda civic or whatever, I'm usually level with his back window.
