Why do you love your Buick?

  1. i guess some of us can say our dads got us into the buick thing and i am one of them. it startes 27 years ago when i was 15 and am still going. my dad bought a 65 wildcat marone 2dr fast. like to go with him and sit and ride the waves. anyway time past a bit and the motor blew. he asked me if i wanted it before it went to the scrape yard and of course i jumped at it. the local junk yard raced buick motors in there modified so i went over there and they sold me there last years motor. fuel injected and all. even threw in a 55 gallon drum of airplane fuel for it. well i cut the hood and the stacks stood up out of the car and it went like a bat out of he--. all my friend where into the suprbee mustang charger thing. we have road america a few miles away and back them on saturdays they opened it up for us kids instead of racing on the roads. well one by one everyone fell behind and i became the talk of my school. dang thoughs where good times. i even had to tow the superbee home with it one day because he blew his clutch. been hocked ever sence

My, dad would put us kids on his lap and let us "drive" his 55 Buick into the driveway.
When I started High School he had a 66 Wildcat which I got to drive a few times. What a car. Being in the body shop business all his life meant various dealerships and comapny cars. He worked at a dealership, Shannon Buick from the mid 60's thru 71. There was nothing like tagging along to the Body Shop on a Saturday. (The Shannon Brothers fielded sprint cars and Indy 500 cars I can recall my dad doing work on the sprint cars)
Now my family and I live a couple of miles from the same neighborhood where I grew up riding in those Buicks.
There's nothing like a 70 Skylark. Mine glides down the highway as smooth as silk. You know you really enjoy a car when you are able to drive it all day without a radio playing.

I started loving Buicks back as a toddler, my dads Jeep had a Buick V-6 in it and it made that little CJ run like a stripped-a___ Ape. I also love the fact that I still believe the GS Buick's were faster than the GTO/SS/442 the same year with a similar engine. (401 nailhead 4bbl vs 389 4bbl GTO, etc, etc) Another reason.. the Buick is a luxury car that MOVES! Combination of both ends of hte spectrum...

Since owning my First one, a '71 Skylark, I was AMAZED at how much POWER it had!:eek2: Then I learned about "GSX'S, and 455's, and Bucket Seats, and all the Other Options that were available"!

I love the '70 GS! Front Bumper, Rear Bumper, Grille!:bglasses: EVERYTHING that makes a '70, a '70! NOT '71 or '72, and there ARE Differences!:Smarty:

I love looking over the GS HOOD SCOOPS, while driving!:bglasses:

I love the "Feel of the Wheel" in the Buicks, too! Like driving a Corvette!:TU:

I love the TORQUE from the GS! It STILL amazes me!

I love NOT HAVING a "CHEVY", like EVERYONE ELSE!:TU::beer :bglasses:

I love our buicks because they are unconventional, cheap, fast, classy, comfortable, fast, not chevy, not ford, and the people that come with the car (You all) are like nobody else in the world

:eek2: Did you say "CHEAP"? :eek2:

When you find a "CHEAP" Buick, LET ME KNOW!:TU:

I agree, that "WE" (Buick guys) ARE like noone else in the world!

The things that "WE" all have IN COMMON, by far, outweigh the things that we DON'T always agree on!:bglasses:

Cheap as in not expensive, ours sure havent been.. well maybe the gs clone, thats the most expensive one and i dont think more than 11K has been spent on it, including purchase price, the custom comes out at the bottom at 2500, i by no means meant cheap quality!

    Thanks Derek,
If you are familiar with the Dayton area, I'm right off I-70 about 6 miles West of the I-70 and I-75 interchange. Route 40 runs right thru Englewood, about 5-10 minutes west of the airport. Coming east I'm about 28 miles from Richmond, IN.

Why wouldn't I love a Buick?? What's not to love?

Floats like a Caddy, stings better than a Super Bee.

I didn't know what a Buick was when I was looking for my first car 15 years ago. I wanted a 67 Mustang fastback.
My dad talked me into my first car, which is my brown 67 Lark. It only took one test drive and I was hooked!
I've had plenty of other brands over the years, but have always had a Buick in the garage, and always will.
I like alot of cars, across almost all brands (yes, even Fords and Mopars :eek2: ), and there's plenty of them I would like to own (and probably will). But I always come back to my Buicks.

    msc66 still no vacuum

When I bought my buick I was just looking for an old convertible for a daily driver. I wanted something different, no Chevelles or Camaros. I just happened to come across this '66 Skylark ragtop. I probably paid too much for it and as a daily driver it sucked, always breaking down but hey, it was an ill maintained 30 yr old car that I was trying to drive 50 miles a day, what did I expect.

After 3 yrs I finally parked it. I considered selling it a few times but my beautiful wife always talked me out of it. Finally I decided it was time to either sell it or restore it and so the "I just want a nice driver" project has steadily snow balled into the usual "more work than its probably worth" project.

I've always liked and respected Buicks and had seen first hand just how bad ass they could be but since I've taken on this project I've truely fell in love with the brand. I guess mainly I love that they are unique and I love the performance. If I am lucky enough to do another project after this one it will be even more unique even for a Buick!

I grew up a few blocks away from Foley Buick, in Wilmette Illinois.
I was eight years old while riding my Schwinn past the big windows of the place and there on the floor stood a yellow GSX:jd:

Went by there everyday and stared at it with my face pressed against the window, a few times one of the salesmen let me come in and look it over. All I really knew was that I looking at the coolist thing on the planet. After that one sold I would admire the other GS's they would have on display.
That place is long gone, but I'll allways remember that first "X" and I guess having a GS kind of gives me that same rush each time I get in it.

I met a new neighbor a few days ago. He was maybe 30 years old. The GS was in the driveway, he stopped, we chatted, and he said: "What is it?"

    I loved it.

To me,there is nothing better than these cars. It's all about personal pride-I really enjoy the classic lines and performance that these cars possess. I will always be a Buick fanatic.

If there were three words to best describe these cars,it is rare, fast, and beautiful.
