O.K. talk me outta this. There is a '66 Imp local that I've being seeing for the past 3 years. After everything I've gone through lookin' for a Buick, I'm about to give up. This car is a good running 327,needs brake work, interior great, only rust is near the trunk lip near the window that will need to be addressed.Faded paint. Only $2,000 It's not like the $ is burning a hole in my pocket or anything but I've chased down so many leads that didn't pan out it's disgusting. Besides, Brandy likes it and it's not a ford. o No: :spank:
I say go for it. :TU: Make it nice, then it might be able to fund a future Buick. Here is what not to do. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=70829
Why? Why? You have wanted a Buick, why settle for a Chevy. The right one will come along, plus if you buy the Chevy the perfect Buick would surface for you the next day, then you would be stuck with a Chevy.
....Go to a Car show / Cruise Nite and be just another Chevy there ??   ....Go to a Car show / Cruise nite and have the only Sky/GS there ?? :bglasses: :bglasses: :bglasses:
That's how it'll happen too.. A deal will fall right into my lap I know it. To be honest at least it's GM, #'s matching and I have yet to see another Imp around here drivin or at shows. Old cars are old cars-rare. But this is a damn better deal than i've been seeing lately. We'll see once I get a second opinion on the metal work.
I say go for it! If nothing else, a $350 paint job and a set of chrome valve covers, and you could double your money in a hurry. If there's one thing that's really nice about a chevy, it's that they made 'em out of steel.... Unlike our buicks which seem to have been made out of unobtanium o No:
10 years ago I wanted an older Pontiac (something from the 60's), instead I "settled" for a Buick. Now I'm a Buick guy (though I still wouldn't mind a Pontiac). Brian
Watch Out! I can tell you for sure if you want a Buick, just buy this Chevy and a half dozens Buicks will come along tomorrow. I looked for 2 years for a 67 Special post 2 door. Could never find one, so I bought a hardtop Skylark. Within days the post cars were everywhere. You have to watch these car things, in 1995 I had a 68 Skylark that was too good to crush but I really didn't much want it. So on a whim, I built a bracket car from it. Now 10 years and 3 race cars later, I'm running all over the country racing Buicks. Now a friend just traded me a 62 Chevy Biscayne 2 door. Another friend has just bought a Lamar Walton 1000 hp 409 on a real deal....now what kind of trouble am I headed for? So watch out; Jim N.
I don't see anything wrong with a specific brand, if the car feels right, it feels right. The right specifications, styling, circumstance, price, then the hood ornament becomes less important, at least to me. If it feels like a good buy, and it gives you what you want then go for it.
What kind of buick are you looking for? I'll bet most of us know where some good buys are. You know, in case of a buick emergency. I've seen and heard of a few recently.
Earlier I came up on a mid 60's Wildcat sitting in someones yard. Looks like it hasnt moved in a while. Body looked good from what I could see. Im going to go back out there whenever I get a chance and get the full details on it.
I love just about any older car, especially the impala's. If you think you would be better off to get an impala, then I say go for it. If you really really want a buick though, the impala would be a bad idea. I say if you want a popular and "older buick" just buy an '84-'87 GN. Fast, sharp looking, easy to find parts for, and decent gas mileage if stock. Lot's of mods available as well if you buy a stocker and want to beef it up a bit. Just my .002 cents.
If you want. I can give you .50 reasons why not to buy an Impala. If you want. Buy it, sounds like a good investment. You can't lose on that deal. Id just check it for frame rot. Make sure its not paper thin anywhere.
Jason, The Impala sounds like a pretty good deal, but let the members on the board know what you are looking for,and see what they can come up with.If after a few weeks there is no success, then go for the Impala. As we discussed at cruise night,I am sure it will still be there in a few weeks.
Go with whichever car makes you happy. The only person you have to satisfy is yourself. If the Imapala is what you like, then go for it. Alot of us arent Buick only fans. I like alot of cars from the 70's and below. Buuuuuut, if you honestly and seirously know you want a Buick, hold out for it. :TU:
I'd say buy it. 65/66 Impalas are definately good looking, cool cars to drive and have the same roofline as 65 and 66 Wildcats - which are one of the most eye pleasing roofs in history. I had an original 65 327 SS (... had... but spilled coffee, 65 miles per hour, a curve, and a concrete culvert threw a wrench in the fanblade of that fun...) and I really dug that car. I owned it at the same time with some 63 and 64 Buicks. I liked the Buicks better, but I had no complaints about the Chev. Another plus is when you find that Buick, and probably on the way home in the new Impala purchase, selling a Chevy is not that difficult. There is a large audience that likes them so finding a new owner when the time comes isn't an issue. If you like the look of it and want a cool car to drive, there it is. Heck, drive it around to look for the Buick, and don't drink coffee at the same time, it might spill on the carpets... Have fun, Matt
