You may remember back in August when I posted a note about the 68 Vette that belonged to my best friend. As a refresher he died unexpectedly a year ago and I was able to get his 68 Vette, a car that he purchased in 1975 and that we used to run around in as kids. He parked it in 1980 or 81 in his mom's barn. At the time I posted picks I had no idea if it would run... well her she is today... oh yes and she RUNS!!! My son and I have spent a lot time cleaning.. but all original even the exhaust!

    The day we found her

A few picks from yesterday... just cleaned her up and oh yes... Baby got new shoes.

Wow! Congratulations. Sorry you had to get it the way you did.

Thank God for fiberglass. No rust issues. Well, maybe the frame a little. I'm more surprised that some animal didn't take up residence in that interior and chew the wiring all up.

Probably one of the best barn finds because the car is original and you don't have to wait to fix anything on it, in order to drive it....enjoy her!:3gears:

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

    Looking great....love the color combination.

I see your vacuum door for the wipers is up....check the vacuum reservoir in the pass side fender well....next to the cowl to see if it is leaking or connected properly....otherwise...could be the vacuum motor on the pass side or the switch in the center of the dash....common problem....you may end up replacing many of the rubber vacuum lines simply due to age.

    Very nice.:beers2:

The late 60's/early 70's C3's with the metal bumpers were the better looking ones for sure.:TU:

A friend of mine fired his 71 Vette up tonight to put it inside. Cold blooded pig....but with good reason. It's on original LS5 4 speed car. Quite a few years ago, he built up a 496 with a bit too big of a cam for it. Didn't help it was low 40's here in NY either.

It's good you have something like that to remember your friend. Now, you get the opportunity to create new memories with the car and your son.

Thanks Guys... it has been special. I consider myself the caretaker of this car as it will always be my friends Vette. But I can tell you it was so special to pull the Air Cleaner and see the Holley that he and I installed in 1975. WOW what a thrill. Then to find the old speaker wires from the 8 track we had put in... Every night it has just been a trip down memory lane.

Daryl lets get together, I want to see and hear that car with the 455. I hope that this Winter to get the 455 in my Buick along with the 700R4.

    John

    69GS400s ...my own amusement ride!

Wow ... it cleaned up real nice !! There are only classic two vettes I'd own - either 68 or 69 4 speed ragtops.

Enjoy it for you and your friend and keep the flame alive.

Recently I lost a close friend (March '11) who was a buddy in my Remote Control flying club. He had gone on to start producing airplane kits ... a cottage industry thing in his garage after his real woork or on the weekends, but still he got quite a following. I'd often go over one or two nites a week and help him design, or pack kits, ir just B.S.

I've been going through the process of helping his wife go through the shop and clean stuff out. Its tough !! with all the memories ... kits, tools, planes etc. I try to bring one of his with me and fly it whenever I go out to the flying field ... and I know he's smiling up there

... I've kept several of his designs built
