Those pics are what i'm talking about, 26-30 inch rims come on now , car has got to ride like crap!!!!! , I remember back in the 80's when people where putting chevelle's and other body's on blazer frames , at least they where 4 wheel drive lol
When I was a kid my dad collected Model T's and A's. I remember when he had a Model T roadster for sale and a couple guys came to look at it and I believe had decided to buy it when one of them made the mistake of mentioning what a great street rod the car was going to make. My dad told them, "Not out of this car you're not", and he put it back in the garage and shut the door.
I'm Not New To The Muscle Car Or Streetrod Life But I Have Been Into Lowrider's For The Past 10 Years And Over The Years I Have Seen Alot Of These Car's At Shows And In The Streets Trust Me When I Say They Ride Like CRAP They Look Like CRAP And Most Of Them Are Bondo Bucket's Maaco Paint With Vinal Graphics And The Rims Are Rented Or Leased And Cost More Than The Car It Self....to Me That Is Dumb
I agree it's ugly and I hate looking at most of what they do, but if you're only talking about the big-a$$ ugly wheels, it's a simple swap that can bring it back to its former glory. I can get around it. The same goes with paint, which is a bit harder. Its when they scrap the trim and tear out the dash's and completely modify the interiors that really sting. Cars from the 80's-present were/are uncharacteristc and void of any real classic design so they can what ever they wish in my opinion.
What really upsets me is when someone takes an even older car that was lovingly restored, and cuts it up to make a Street Rod/Custom. I've seen a couple of instances of this over on the HAMB board and some of them proudly boast they will cut anything up. "I'd cut that!" An unrestored car that is worth not much more than parts is one thing. But to take a car that was historically preserved....
Obvious knockoff. The real ones are yellow, green, red. Not yellow, blue, then red, but what does a 10 year old Chinese girl know?????:TU: :TU: I'm still saving up for the IZOD when it hits the streets!!!!!!!:beer
I couldn't agree more. My skylark was pretty much hacked at and cobbled together before I got it, so I'm not concerned with historical accuracy so much as drivability and fun. I can't stand it though when someone takes a car in pristine original condition and throws a more desirable engine etc into it. My father has a beautiful all original 1965 pontiac lemans convertible that his father bought in 1972. Aquamarine, original everything, including paint and top. Now its a 326 with a three speed column shift manual....not a super desirable drivetrain. I really hope that whoever ends up with it someday appreciates its originality and doesn't buy it to make a GTO clone. :blast:
I suppose I would be contributing to the ignorance which you so discourage. But we young punks (if you call 40 young) can take the wheels off and put 15" wheels on and do some strip racing that would take pink slips from cars deemed so eloquent to classic. Kick someone in the head....???? Come on man. Open your mind a little bit. Keep your opinions to yourself.
Sorry didn't mean to offend anyone, maybe used wrong words by saying kick them in the head, but when i see these 17-18 yr old drug dealers messing up nice classic cars it makes me mad
Bolting on a set of 15x8 rallies when your car originally came with 14x6's is one thing, but chopping one up to lift it and put on 30''s is something completely different. On the bright side, most of these cars are rotted out putty buggies to begin with. Thugsters that are into this style arent gonna drop big money on a concours car or a nice original when they can find a bondo filled special at every west side shady car dealer hack and go to Earl Schiebe to get an obnoxious color spray bomb job for 200 bucks. If they wanna spend crazy money on wheels to look stupid thats their business, but dont think I wont exercise my rights and laugh my a** off at them openly every chance I get. If they get pissed, its not like they can catch me in their hoopty P.O.S. anyway!!!
I am a car guy, I love cars and while I wouldn't agree with what some people do to their cars I don't trash it. What does bother me is people who pretend to know what they are talking about and once I find out they are just some poser trying to look cool or sound smart I just turn around and chuckle. Honda guys make a great example, 90% of honda tuners are people who watched a little too much vin diesel and live their lives " A quarter mile at a time" These are the same people who kill innocent bystanders and call nitrous "NOS". When I hear someone say they use "NOS" in their car I ask them how Nitrous increases power in an engine. As soon as I hear "Because it makes a bigger explosion" I stop listening. That being said their are alot of kids running Hondas that know what they are talking about and would make the mustang driving equivalent of a ricer look like a dumbass when he gets smoked by a 1.0L econobox. Not saying I like Hondas just saying you can't always judge a book by its cover.
There are a few here in Bowling Green, Ky that are mostly 4 door cars and I have to admire the work (paint/body/interior) that these young guys have come up with. No one else would do much with a 4 door car but at least these young guys have saved them from the crusher. I try and look at the quality of the work and not if I like what they have done to the vehicle. Just my two cents worth.
