I’m exploring options for a new stereo and I’m wondering about putting a din chassis radio in where the stock one is now. I hate to hack the dash but options for quality radio’s are almost non-existent. Pics? Thanks
Have you checked the classic radio which look very similar to the original, but with blue tooth, usb, etc. I paid around $250 for it.
You can send your stock radio out for a conversion: https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/s-m-electro-tech-inc.373792/#post-3265219 https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/radio-restore-and-bluetooth-upgrade.367049/#post-3178434
I looked at those but they get really poor reviews as far as overall quality and sound. Options are far better with newer style radios. Trying to convince myself it’s not a huge deal but for the din I have to cut the radio hole and not sure I want to do that or not.
Jim and Ralph are alternative sources as mentioned in the posts. There are other posts as well, I just picked two. Search radio+conversion: https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?search/66688932/&q=radio+conversion&o=date Sad to hear about Greg.
Do you have to send him a factory radio? Mine had some old sparkomatic radio in it. I’d even take a good stock radio to fill the hole and do a remote radio if I have to. I need something that will look decent to fill the hole once I get the dash back in it.
I guess you can send him any radio. I would buy a factory AM one on the board (post under parts wanted) or ebay and send it. If you are going to the trouble you might as well have a correct radio. Used ones are cheap enough.
Its a brand name for the electronic boards used to rebuild the inside of a car radio. They come in modules so you can do bluetooth, USB, AM/FM. etc. Companies that do the conversion usually use their parts. https://www.tech-retro.com/aurora-design/home.html
I used a Retrosound radio to replace the crappy old JVC knob type radio that came with my car. I am very happy with it. I didn't have to cut anything, it looks great, and sounds great! I have one of their amps in my Suburban which is also a quality piece that I am happy with.
