I'm quite sure that my accelerator pump is still original. I will definitely get the right seal when rebuilding. Thanks again. I'll see how she starts cold tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully i don't flood it again.

I wonder what explains the long cranks after sitting for a week when using your pump cup, no leaks out the bottom, solid seat, no little hanger and Sunoco 110? Probably just not enough use? No other issues.

I don't sell "pump cups", only complete accl pump assemblies. The seal will NOT swell up for any reason no matter what type of fuel you are using. If you don't get instant starts after long periods of sitting the bowl may be empty as none of this fuel sticks around very long......

My engine will start with 2 pumps up to 2 days after I have last run it. After that, the bowl is empty.

I use a plastic bottle like this to fill the bowl through the vent,

I have found that if I do this the day before I plan to use the car, the engine instantly starts without even a pump, and without a choke. I just need to feather it a bit immediately to keep it running especially as the weather gets colder. Once it has been running a minute or two, it will idle, albeit roughly, on it's own.

I keep a gallon metal container full of 91 non ethanol fuel and keep the plastic bottle filled, for when I need it.

Well then it must have been whole pump asm, it's been so long that I can't remember. Interesting enough, I recently switched from a Qjet to a QFT 950. Using the car in the same manner, IE similar sit times, the QFT starts easier, w/o "dry-bowl syndrome". Not to disparage the Qjet, which I am a very big fan of, but the QFT added a very significant power increase on a 10-second car. When you bolt on a simple part on a 600HP engine and notice a substantial power improvement at that level, then you know the engine was carb-limited.

I saw NOTHING anyplace replacing my 1977 Pontiac Q-jet with a Holley 4781-2 850DP or HP950 series. The car also ran about the same at the track with any of those carbs. My engine makes over 550hp/600tq. I did see a nice improvement in MPH testing a high rise single plane intake with a 1" spacer on it. I suspect my set-up is more intake limited than carb limited, but I REFUSE to "cobble" the Shaker and factory air cleaner assembly just to run a taller intake and get it all under the hood. For the 2 or 3 tenths I'd pick-up I would completely loose the "stock appearing" look. I much prefer to hand out diapers when folks wonder over to the car in staging and gander at the dial in then see the stock Q-jet on a factory intake under the hood. Those looks are "priceless"!.........

I rebuilt my quadrajet with help from Cliffs book and kit. Also spoke with Cliff a few times. I did the mods he suggested and installed it today and took it for a test drive. I am still waiting for a vacuum choke pull but it runs very well. My fresh engine smokes the tires like I always imagined it could! I also limited my vacuum advance throw now so I'll take it for another ride tomorrow. :) Thanks so much Cliff and others!!

I installed Cliffs vacuum pulloff today and adjusted its linkage so air flaps are held shut completely with full vacuum. No more bog out of the hole at WOT now. ;)
