So todays project is the hood insulation, anybody got ideas on how to make this original presentable before I take it out and either replace it or not. I want to stay original but I can’t stand trashy looking.

Do you think it’s that important to a survivor car to leave it?

I would replace it. I don't think anyone would look at this car with a new hood insulation pad and think any less of it. It'll help quite a bit visually.

I left an original hood insulation on a 57 Roadmaster I had, then had it judged. They took points of because it wasn't perfect. Kind of bummed me out, but since then, I never bother with originals if they're not pristine.

Do you like my vintage bumper sticker? Found 2 diff ones a few years back in the drawer of a old piece of furniture, both Nixon for President.

So was that car built before November, ‘72?

Not a real fan of most greens, but your car is gorgeous! Nice work...

I just love the way this original owner took so much pride in this car from day 1. He kept the paperwork and a maintenance log. I been cleaning and tidying up things under the hood today. That’s the original window sticker and the new upper door seals look amazing.

Anybody got suggestions on how to make the Master Cylinder look fresher without sending it out to some place? Works great just hate the rusty look? 3:42 posi, helps it run nice even though it was a smog era year.

I scrubbed mine with lacquer thinner and a scotchbright pad, then painted it with the Duplicolor Cast Iron color. It was new and off the car, though.

If you’re not fully removing and restoring the master cylinder and just want to freshen up the look, I would suggest brushing it with evaporust, being careful not to damage the sticker.

That's what I was going to recommend. Just leave the lid on so the stuff doesn't get inside.

Easiest thing to use is Calyx sold by Eastwood. I did my master cylinder a few years ago and it still looks great. Also did the exhaust and brake calipers.

New hood liner came and installed today, I hate them but it’s a survivor so this new one is better than the old crappy one. CAA1B13B-2C8C-456E-A486-F62F7EFC24FC.jpeg 86C17B5F-1D5F-49C8-B6DE-9A57C916987B.jpeg

I would not have guessed the hood liners are reproduced for the ‘73’s. Good deal.

Can you let us know where you found the liner? I tried a 73 Chevelle once. didn't work.

It works pretty nicely but it’s not press-formed exactly like the original. Total shipped was $54

I see you put the A.I.R. pump belt back on. Make sure that the diverter valve, and one way valve is working properly. If the pump is pumping air, and if the diaphragm in the one way valve is faulty ( many are) you have a chance of blowing the mufflers apart.
