The body on my Buick was redone about 20years ago, you tap the rear quarters and you can tell where the puddy is. That will increase the labor costs on the body, correct?

Welcome aboard UkrainianGuy!...I'm also Ukrainian :TU:

Very nice story about your father being the original owner and now you have it....it's a family heirloom, don't ever part with it.

Look at it as a long term hobby, no need to rush as you appear to be enjoying the car anyways. Nice pictures and videos :TU:...thanks for sharing!

Did the tune up this last weekend. That GLORY peddle is freaking INSANE!!!
A pissed off teenager raising hell is the best way to describer her. Unbelievable raw power, up and down the streets. Rubber smell, the rumble, took my friends for a boot and let me say, they **** themselves!

Idle still too high (1,000 rpm)

    :beers2:

Well I got the itch to go out of town on a road trip. Head to the beach!!!

So after work 11pm, I jumped in the Buick with a lady friend and rumbled to Gimli. Sounded good, but noticed she was sputtering a little bit? Not sure why, but I wasn't brave enough to hit 60MPH. Sat at 50MPH all the way. Sure its slower but the lights arent as bright and I cant change the headlights due to the bolts are stripped/seized/snapped! She purred nicely all the way, no problems at all.

On the way back.. lol...I wanted to pull over take a piss, and enjoy the quiet country side, you know hear the crickets. Turned it off.... 15min later we jumped back in it to go home and she sorta a little bit turned over and sounded like she was out of battery juice but wouldnt start or catch. I tried again and sorta kinda fired up and rumbled - all was well. Then I noticed on the way back the temp gauge is now half way to HOT. Normally its always sits at COLD.

So I made it back to Winnipeg no problem, my Buick (Penunia - Porky Pigs Girlfriend) ate up 3/4 of a tank of gas to a destination that was an hour out... yikes!

Told a buddy and he says those starters over heat and don't like to start after being so hot?!

Can anyone explain this to me?

These starters do indeed overheat...believe that they originally came from the factory with a heat shield in an attempt to shield the starter from engine heat.

This was discussed somewhere here recently...solution seems to be a smaller, compact starter which apparently handles engine heat more efficiently.

The starter soaks up heat from the engine. The heat is transferred to the starter wiring. The heat in the wires causes so much resistance to the current that, normal voltage is not enough to overcome the resistance.
(I'm no expert, I heard this from someone who is an expert. Heat Soak is what they call it.)

Replacing the positive and negative wires from the battery with bigger diameter wires will help reducing the resistance.
Another thing that comes to my mind is the initial timing advance. Too much initial timing can give starting problems.
Read more about timing in Larrys excellent power timing thread. (one of my favourite threads)

My how time flys by!!! Thus far I have knocked down 2 credit cards, done some traveling, and became a father!
This last saturday makes it 19yrs since my father passed away. I swung by a car wrecker and bought a battery for the Buick ($25) and dropped it in. Buick been sitting for two years, and after a few pumps on the peddle she started right up. I plan to drive her this summer where and when i can.

I find the 5 on 5 wheels in the back interesting.

Looks like we are in the same boat with the quarter panels! If you're looking for just a average driver, I found a pair of quarter panels front to back for $110 a piece on jegs. Will definitely be ordering them for mine soon. Welcome! [IMG]

    GOOD EYE!
they are a little bit wider rims onthe back, and to make them fit, adapters were put on. These adapters are now cracked, however to remove them would require a new set of tires for the origional rims. If i make that change, I would have to remount the exhaust as currently the rear pipes are about an inch away from the tires. :)

so until the tires go or until the adapters fly off - im stuck with this setup

In order to sell a car here you have to list an asking price. You can not list a car for offers. Please use the edit key to include a price.

Mine used to have that same setup (and I still have the underdash evaporator collecting dust in the garage); weighs about an extra 800 lbs. I might be exaggerating...

    System was VERY cold.
