Anyone know where I can find a pair of doors (or door skins) for My 1970 GS455 convertible restoration? Also looking for a Hood (God I hope the rumors of someone making new steel hoods are true!) Any leads would be appreciated. Thank You, Chet
Chet... head on down to Tampa Bay... I have a set of nearly PERFECT, RUSTFREE, primered doors. They are straight, sport maybe a ding or two from storage and were used on a Vert frame off project. We welded a strap across the area that is shown in light grey spray bombed primer.. that area would need to be 'worked' a little ~ other'n that, THESE ARE SAAHWEEET! but you gotta come and gettum b'cuz I will not ship..! :TU: Email me if you are interested; PenWheelz2@ij.net Wheelz, Tampa Bay
yup. vert, hardtop, coupe all the same. The only difference is POST COUPE doors, for obvious reasons.
You are correct. The 70 and 71-72 mirror locations are different, if I remember correctly a little over two inches. Jim is also correct about the latch...
Yes. The mirror location was moved rearward for 1971. I am curious if this happened near the end (much like the additional screw at the bottom of the interior door panel) of the 1970 model year.
"Yes. The mirror location was moved rearward for 1971. I am curious if this happened near the end (much like the additional screw at the bottom of the interior door panel) of the 1970 model year." I have no idea if it happened as a mid-production or year-end change, I just know that it did happen. The problem with dealing with "Fisher Body" changes, rather then "final assembly" changes is we have no records from Fisher Body. That means the only way to "record" parts changes (in Fisher Body's jurisdiction) is to look at the actual cars. This is becoming increasingly difficult as the number of un-restored cars is dwindling. Plus even if you find one, most current owners cannot track every repair that was ever done on the car, so unless you take the door panels off and check the date codes, you can't be sure the door wasn't changed. The days of having tons of original cars as reference vehicles is over. We should feel lucky to have figured out the majority of 70-72 changes while the availability was still there. Duane PS. I am not even going to get into the parts changes between an early and late 70 doors, or between the 70-71 doors. It has nothing to do with the original posters needs, which was to find 70 door shells for his car. We will assume he can take all his original parts out and install them in the new shells.
If you need the correct mounting holes for the mirrors, I put a factory 11x17 template on the website here for all 1970 cars.
