There’s a reason that Buicks don’t bring as much money as other brands. Part of the problem is the Buick community itself. Just look at the traffic that’s here on the board today

Funny, if I read some of the posts on here without clicking on the auction, I'd swear it was an old cut up race car for sale

By this logic, probably half the Stage 1 cars still among the living are no longer Stage 1 cars?

    Am I interpreting this correctly?

According to the purists, yes and there is no interpreting needed; especially from a "Super Moderator".

This isn't exactly news and I didn't come up with it.

This is what I have learned from the V8Buick community since I acquired my 1972 Buick.

Obviously, there are those who don't care, either way, but you have to admit an authentic, all numbers matching car should fetch an ass ton more money than its counterpart that was a frankensteined, rode hard and put away wet holy grail...some call that a waste.

These are not unlike any other "antiques" for sale...

Mine is not numbers matching, and I really don't give 2-sh$#'s!!!

I always wanted one, bought what I could find, and what I could afford. Except for the original short block and alternator, mine is pretty much exactly the way the original owners picked it up.....most of the paint, interior, etc... Still with it.

I am not interested in selling, and have been offered large sums of money.

We also drive ours and enjoy it.

My point is....it doesn't have to be an absolute concours survivor to be a valuable and coveted car. How many out there really fall in that category? Not a very high percentage.

Any big money car, regardless of make or model, in a public auction setting is going to get a lot of scrutiny and opinions that may alter perceptions especially when they differ from their original “as built” configuration.

Some of the comments may help you formulate an opinion but you have to look at the facts you know about its history, authenticity, correctness, etc. yourself and go from there. As a buyer you ultimately have to determine what its worth to you and act accordingly. The same goes for the seller when the time comes to sell.

An authentic, all original is hard to come by and a GSX Stage 1 is a unicorn. This is what you typically find when looking for a Stage 1 car.

1970 Buick GS455 Stage 1 (authentic, numbers matching, barn find, 90% rusted, nothing works/unrepairable)

1970 Buick GS455 Stage 1 (sold as clone) - looks great, is a Skylark with a 455/TH350, column shift, GS hood, Stage 1 badges with breather stickers.

1972 Buick GS455 Stage 1 (sold as authentic) - looks good, not original engine/wheels/side view mirrors, no options, seller is aloof, provides VIN and body tag.

1970 Buick GS455 Stage 1 (sold as authentic) - looks good, not original drivetrain, plenty of interior options, seller provides 100 pics, provides VIN and body tag.

The old joke is there were only about 5K Stage 1's produced, yet there are 10K for sale...

I once wrote a post here about 6 or 7 years after I bought my 73 Stage1 Sun Coupe about this forum. When I bought the car I was so lucky that I wasn't part of a Buick Club or this forum.
Most of you know my SCO Paint yellow car with body #000092. I by chance like I said years after I bought the car decided to look up on this forum if anyone knew of the car or commented on it when it was for sale.
If I went by all the negative comments about the car in the posts I saw about the car and the complaints and it isn't real stuff I would have never bought it.
Well you guys I did buy it only had John Csordas do a engine compartment resto and clean the under carriage. The rest is all original. Look in my signature and see how far this car has gone, even winning
Peoples Choice at the Audrain Concours in Newport Rhode Island
Sometimes it seems like this forum is the best place not to listen to comments on cars For Sale.
Have a nice day guys. See you all at the Nationals in Bowling Green. LOL
    PS The I paid $7,500 for the car in Decenber 2004. IMG_0133.JPG Screenshot 2023-12-09 at 3.06.00 PM.jpeg 3664F0DF-F97E-4B6A-9082-160DD105EDBF_1_201_a.jpeg IMG_6965.jpeg

Nothing wrong with some friendly banter, most of north America is off season for car shows/cruises seeing cars for sale provides something to debate about. As a potential buyer you try to decipher who you can trust their knowledge. I have many of the for sale posts, you get cars nit picked, but I have also read for sale ads where their is mutual agreement of legitimacy of the car.
