I was talking to my cousin the other day and we got to talking about cars. He has a 2000 V6 Mustang. He is practically in love with his car. I mean i am too, but he is a little over the top. He could take pictures of it all day.
Im fine with that and all.....but then he starts talking crap?!?! This i couldnt take. He thinks that he could beat me in a race.

His mustang is pretty much stock. Its lowered a little, has a K&N air filter, dual exhuast, stock V6 engine. :moonu:

    I have a 1972 skylark. It is a stock V8 350, 2bbl with dual exhuast. :Brow:

He claims that he can beat me just because his car is sooooooo light. I know that my car is practically a boat and weighs a ton, but still, his car is putting out the muscle that mine is.

DOES HE STAND A CHANCE?!?! :puzzled:

stang specs for 04..couldnt find it for 2k but i'm sure theirs no change
    specs, 3114 curb weight
    190hp at 52520 rpm
    220 tq at 2750

if you dont want to take any chances, powertune your distributer and run 93 octane

Thats good to hear. i also forgot to mention that his is manual and mine is auto. I dont know how big of a difference that makes.

But what are the typical specs for my car. Ive never had it dynoed but apparently stock they get about 190-210hp? never was exactly sure

And running 93 octane makes sense. How do you powertune a distributor?

A friend of mine has almost the exact same car as your cousin, v6 2000 Mustang with K&N and dual exhaust, manual, otherwise stock. If I remember correctly when we took it to the drag strip he was running low 16's to very high 15's.....just to give you an idea of what they do.

I think it will be close. But what gears do you have. He may have you on weight and gear=not looking good for you. But you have better torque numbers i am sure. It should be close. I would feel better about the race if you had a 4 brl carb and at least 3.55 or better yet 3.73 gear. Take them to your local strip and run them on street legal night or test and tune.

Hmm...starting to sound like i have a less and less of a chance of winning. And i have no idea what gears i have to be completely honest.

Go with the aforementioned 4bbl, and maybe some laughing gas while you're in there?

Take that Stang and smack it around all over the place. I think that you will beat him. Once dumps the clutch and starts to spin you will be gone then you can tell everyone how the big bad boat ankor Buick beat a Mustang....Now go out and smack him up!

My 92 bone stock GT convertable Mustang could only do a best of 15.70@ 89 mph. That is 225 hp. Automatic with 3.25 gear

I'm with you but what does a bone stock 72 Skylark 350-2 do in the quarter? Consumer Reports January 1970 tested a 1970 Skylark 350-2 4 dr. 18.5 @ 76MPH in the quarter. I would expect a low compression 72 to be a little slower.

A couple weeks ago I was driving my wife's car,a 95 Cutless Ciera and I did meet a 2001 Mustang six banger. My 66000 miles 3.1 did him in.If your Skylark is running good, you will probably toast him. But,you never know, unless you race him.BrunoD.

If he's close to stock he doesn't have a chance. I know a guy with some money into his V6 stang and he runs 15.6s. Not bad for a v6

probably be a good race... but i dont know... my friends 72 350 skylark with a new motor has been getting dusted by almost every car we have... i told him to stop racing it because we're all loosing respect for it... haha... he swore it would beat my 70 cougar xr7 with a 351 but that was easy... my friends late 80's prelude stick beat it and so did my 87 bmw 325i that i got from a auction for 425 bucks... the 72 skylark 350 is a smooth good sounding good running engine but as far as racing goes i dont think it has much to it... when going against my cougar i told him his skylark makes a lot of noise... cuz it has flowmasters but thats about all it was doing...it didnt really go anywhere... sounds good tho...i like the way the 350s ride a lot...just not race cars i dont think
