You need two things to beat him. 1) a 4bbl intake and carb 2) at least a 3.08 rear end.

My 71 Skylark with a 4bbl and the 2.56 open rear end only did about 80 in the qtr.

Even if he does beat you, it won't be by much, so there is no possible way he'll be able to beat you bad enough to justify the smack he's talking. So win or lose, it doesn't really matter.

Personally I'd bet on you. 6-cylinder Mustangs are lame.

    just run em...

if he gets ya, oh well.
if you get him, rub his nose in it!

I agree that it would be close. Take out your spare tire, your jack, and any junk that you don't need in the car. Bump the timing up a little, run some hi-test in the tank, and make sure you know how to launch without roasting your tire. I think you'll have a good chance after all that, but it might be tight! :TU: Go get him!

    69GS400s ...my own amusement ride!

my 69 Skylark with stock 350-2 barrel tuned very well used to run 16.4 with a non-posi 2.93 so dont expect miracles ...

... but you do have an advantage if you play it right :Brow:

Tell him how AWESOME the Buick Torque is - legendary figures of 510 ft/lbs from the Stage1 that no other car ever matched ...etc.etc.etc. and that torque ... that off the line grunt is what makes the Buick so great. Great enough to beat Hemi's, LS6 Chevelles, 442s, etc..

All that torque launches the car so well that the race will be over before you even shift into 2nd.

... and you'll psych him out so bad he'll blow the launch with his clutch drop just hoping he can keep you in sight and the race is over as you sail away

not a great win, but a win is a win

my six banger 71 ran a best of 18.37@73 last week. can't imagine a 350 car would be slower. the buzzin' 1/2 dozen has 3.42s though.

Did you race him yet. stop keeping us in suspense. Flip the top lid of your air cleaner over and it will sound like a four barrel. That will send shivers down his spine. Try launching the car from an idle to see how it takes off. If it takes off good without any stumble you will have this sucker. If you get a little bit of stumble then try to give it a little bit of rpm then nail it. Test this first before you race him. Get a little bit of practice in before you do him in, then you will be ready. You will do better after the car is warmed up also. So drive around for about 10-15 minutes or so but don't hot dog it and get it hot. You just want to get all the parts warmed up, trans., rear end, etc. You weigh about 400 more lbs than him so if you beat him thats a double wammy. If he beats you by a little bit maybe a car that means you have just as much power as him. Now lets go out and take the 6 popper out!:spank:

I think the stang will win if he can get it off the line and can shift it.-sorry, Mike D.

Sounds to me like it's going to be a close one. I honestly don't know who will come out on top, but if you do race this guy, I guess we'll all know. Sorry you have to be the lab-rat.

But it sounds like it will be a good race. You should see if you can get someone to film it for you. :TU:

Looks like he already lost...He just can't drive. So he beat on his car to show you how fast it is. My stock 71 with a 2 bbl. and automatic would do about 110. Now what you do is put on a TA intake and get a nitrous system and just put a 50 hp shot on it. That will be easy on the motor and you will probably beat some stock v8 Mustangs as well. I used a 80 hp shot on my built motor and went from a 13.60 quarter mile to a 12.20 quarter mile. So it doesn't take much nitrous to go fast. A 125 shot of Nitrous got me to the 11.80-11.90 range. But I do have a built motor with a larger cam in it. Your stock motor will probably get you in to the low 14s or maybe some high 13s. I think there are some threads on here where a guy put nitrous on and got into the high 12s with a stock motor. You will need a TA intake and a four bbl to use nitrous. I use a Holley dbl pumper. With my stock motor and my 256 rear gear I had a comp cam 268 High Energy cam stock torque convertor in it with a 650 spread bore Holley on a stock intake. I was beating a late 80s stock RS Camaro. I beat him 3 times in a row at the track. I was running 15.80s at the time. He would get the jump on me by a car length and at half track I was passing him by. By the third time he didn't get behind me any more, this was back in 1990. I am still using the same motor now but I just have all new parts. All from TA performance. Good Luck.
