Pressure test of the 200R4 complete. I had fluctuating readings that quickly decreased to next to 0 in park on the jackstands. So the first thing I did was check the fluid level. WAY low. like 5 Qts. My fault completely. I guess I spilt a bit more than I thought when I took the trans out and modified it.:spank: Anyhow, after putting the RIGHT AMOIUNT OF Dex IN IT..... Pressure readings stabilized so I ran the test. The CK performance manual recommends tests at min and max TV setting. Results: MIN TV Gear range Desired Actual Park 90 85 Reverse 130 145 Neutral 90 85 D4 90 90 D3 90 90 D2 155 205 D1 155 205 (Boost valves appear functional!) MAX TV Gear range Desired Actual Park 240 225 Reverse 275 205 Neutral 240 220 D4 240 210 D3 240 210 D2 300 215 D1 300 185 So in general the trans looks like it is operating as intended. Yes there are some differences in the desired and actual that could be the result of the specific trans design I have. My KD tool pressure gage aint the best either... At any rate it was time for a test drive to check for any complaints. The test drive was MUCH improved. I can sum it up. Although I did not do any full throttle, I did some 3/4 throttle accellerations from a stop, and generally rolled into the throttle aggressively. The automatic shift points STINK. WAAAAY too soon. But this was expected, and will be modified/adjusted throughout the summer. The actual shifts, however, were VERY nice. Snap your head back nice. Not as hard as my built TH350 was (now in JaysToy's 71) but still niiice. Manually shifting the trans really gave me an indication that once I get the shift points sorted out I will be pleased with the mods Ive made to the trans. I did manage to hang the tail in 1st gear turning from a 4 way stop, quite by accident. The D5 converter really seems up to the job so far. pretty responsive. I will test more throughout this coming week, burnouts, WOTs....I am hoping to drive the black mule to the GSGN spring meet next weekend. I am very pleased that I wont have to pull the trans again. My only real question now is the longevity of the trans. I am running the stock frictions with the performance bolt on mods I did, and its uncharted water for me now. One thing I did notice is that the lockup is not happening. Need to figure that out. Also the MaxTV R, D2, D1 pressures are uncomfortably low, all boosted pressures incidentally. :3gears:
Lockup is fixed and functional. I had the power on an ACC terminal at the fuse block, not IGN where it should have been. I took the car on two 30 minute romps on the hiway today with the wife and kids as support crew in the jeep, just in case. Altogether I am quite pleased. Vibration has lessened considerably since I put the small spacer on the trans mount. It reappears when close to 75 mph now, and is very mild. Spacer will need adjusting and I need to check pinion angle. The lockup is a neat feature. Flip a switch in D3 or D4 and drop a few hundred RPMs. I got up to about 80 mph cruising on a good stretch and I dont think the motor got over 2700RPM in D4. At about 75 MPH I run about 2500, not locked up. I also had the chance, later, to go out solo and go to my fave burnout/hard accel spot. I did several WOT starts and a few brake stands. Results were very good. Burnouts = noproblem. WOT accelleration from a stop is very good, though I dont think the 200R4 holds as hard as the old TH350 I had, because the 200 didnt seem to want to burn the tires as long before hooking. Could be a tuneup issue too. So several greasy black stripes later, it looks like the 200R4 is pretty solid. Now to see how long it lasts......:beer :3gears:
