Broken valve spring, intake side, cylinder #3. The muscle car gods were watching over me. Yes, the spring broke but consider my luck that the spring spun into itself and the damper spring held it all together.
I managed to find myself up against Brad Rising and his beautiful '64 GTO. His car ran great, running 3 13.5XXX in a row. My car fell off and was running in the 13.70's. I do believe that my mufflers have had enough and are getting vocal about it. Anyone have some sage advise on buying a set of cans?:moonu: Again, one of the best times on the planet! Thank you to all who are involved with this endeavor!!! Now...... lets get ready to invade MCACN!!!!! I believe that we have an awesome group of cars to help represent our form of racing to the 'Show Car' crowd. We are going to leave them dirty and let everyone see that we actually race these things!!!! Please look at your calendar and see if you can make it to the Windy City the weekend before Thanksgiving. Go to www.mcacn.com for more information.
Bob K. asks what springs im running and told him and he said to put stiffer springs in..SO i stage in hit the pedal and off i go and get that 12.13 at 116.. Now the stage is set for some awsome heads up racing.. Bob has been playing wuith these cars for a long time I think he has seen it all! The cars sure are running hard! KID
BTW how did that vidio come out? ..... Well , I have 5 minutes of donnys face, setting up the camera for me. Several shots of me looking into it wondering if it was recording. Round 1. You driving away from me! p Round 2. Me spinning and you driving away from me !Quzzled: Round 3. Battery died as soon as I started the burnout:af: Sooooo not much for good action other than round one. Was bumbed I couldn't see you flippen me off. Always have MIR:TU:
Craig: 'Glad you enjoyed the Studebakers....then and now! They aren't that difficult to find parts for; the only honest rarities are genuine R3 cylinder heads for the 304.5 R3 engines. Those heads don't break or crack; there just weren't many of them made to begin with. There were actually two Avantis there, similar colors; and a black 1955 Commander hardtop. The Commander's driver was his first time out, and his was the first 1955 model year car of any make to compete in the 19 years the event has run...and I dare say the first 6-volt, positive-ground car to compete as well! :TU: 'Good to see everyone else, too. :beerBP
Hey guys - been about like years since last I posted anything First off - THANKS TO DAVE H for again throwing me the keys to one of his Olds for a weekend of car heaven. This event is the most fun ya can have with your clothes on !!! For it's maiden voyage we were pretty happy with the 66's performance - but did have something go south on us during Sat AM time trials and thru eliminations. Yet it did manage the best ET / MPH on the first match race at 13.47 / 105 mph - We'll get it figured out and fixed and looking to move a few rungs down the ladder with even better ET's next year. Good go see ya'll again this year guys and thks to Tim C / Donny B and Chris for loaning us a few of ya tools and stuff so we could keep on running as well as we did. Rgds
Don't whoop on the R2 Avanti, said Richard, "they are new to this" first round I beat 'em cause they missed a shift. 2nd and third round off the line and whooped on about 3/4 track. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10200568586240671cebook.com/photo.php?v=10200568661122543"]https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10200568661122543[/URL]
Great time as usual, got junior mints from Karen Remlinger, raced the the "Little red tomato" and had 300 pounds of potatoes (in the trunk). Let's see Gordon Ramsey mix that all up and eat it. Special thanks to Frank & Karen for food, drink, and hospitality. Congrats to Ted's hired gun, John in the R3. I beat him in the first round and that was the end of my luck. First shootout I've ever won while looking at someone's rear bumper twice. My only complaint is that it was over too soon.
I had a great weekend. It's fun catching up with everyone each year and also meeting some new friends. My 340 Duster was qualified at 14.12 and was paired with the white Buick GS that was in at 14.15. He hadn't had the car out in 20 years! Round #1 he got into the 13.90's and killed me on the tree. I knew I was in trouble. Round #2 my .02 something light was enough to get the holeshot win. His car was back in the 14's on that pass. Round #3 his car slowed, I didn't end up needing the .007 light.
Found the problem with the #2 cylinder that caused the smoke from the right tailpipe on my 66 442. Small casting flaw that leaked coolant into the exhaust port. Repaired and on its way back from friend in Ohio, going back together this week. Glad it was only that head and not the block.
