very good info here, Soon I'll be ready for the installation part. I'm still in progress of the new motor. I just got off the phone with Kevin from US Shift. I 've had a bunch of questions as per what it can do. He was very helpful. I like that unit, because it displays vehicle speed and fluid temp and is small enough to place on the dash some where. I'll keep reading about the others. Keep the info coming...... thanks for everyone's input!
Here's a rabbit trail See anything interesting in my list of smart phone apps? I am constantly tempted to interface everything to my phone ... speedo, transmission shifting, temperatures the list goes on. :bglasses:
http://static.summitracing.com/global/images/prod/mediumlarge/msd-2760_ml.jpg thoughts on this one, if i'm reading it right it will link up with the MSD programmable 6al-2 OR am I just wanting to see it that way ?
Look at compushift. I have had good luck with that controller. My current project with use the Holley Dominator ECU to control efi and the 4l80e. Good luck with your project!
And remember that the first year 4L80E trucks(can't recall the first year off hand) have a stand alone trans controller that can be found in junkyards or maybe even bought new from auto part stores as a replacement TCM?(I never looked into it) If buying new would need to figure out a wire harness. GL Derek
I posted the info in a different 4L80E thread hear on V8 that I found from doing a Bing internet search. But yeah a 93 should be close to the first year of that trans. I will see if I can find the other thread. GL Derek
Here is the link with all the links in post # 12; http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?287581-over-drive-in-a-strip-street-car&highlight=4L80E The first year looks like it was a 1991 for the 4L80E. Derek
Here's another question, Is this 4l80e going to fit in the 67 A body tunnel without the excessive force of a B*H?o No:
You may have to move some metal around a bit for clearance, we had to in a 72.. Nothing serious, and shimming the body mounts can help.. a 1/4 inch shim between the body mount and the body can do wonders for clearance, and the front/rear bumpers have enough adjustment that you really can't tell.. Make sure you shim the core support the same as the body.. JW
I don't have the body on the frame now. new mounts going in. I want to complete the drive line and plumbing before I drop the body down over the top. 1/4" spacers should be easy enough. I would imagine that makes for a lot less banging. :TU: thanks for the tip.
So I dropped the 4l80e trans off at the builder today. along with the TransGo HD2 kit. I opted for a complete rebuild because it sat in the yard and on the garage floor for 10+ years and I just don't want problems after the install. The original torque converter won't work well because I need 3000 to 3200 stall for the drive line I'm working with. so as I am learning it's again more money, more money. I get the trans back monday next week and have the adapter plate to mate it to the engine. Question: Will the stock trans cross member bolt directly to the 4l80e trans ? of course I don't have one to check so before I buy one I thought this to be a valid question. I can move/add frame rail mounts same as stock just further back. should I lower the rear cross member a little to compensate for the longer unit ? thanks everyone for the input. the simplest things make a difference. :TU:
you could knock it down some more speedway has adapters for about 30 bucks. cooling lines you could bend up yourself. you can find dispsticks you can use a bit cheaper or rig up a stock one. driveline could be cut down at home if you had the tools. yoke idk for sure on that but i seem to recall some cheap option. the linkage you can rig a stocker up on some cars. but you could shave a few hundred off.
im not sure on that you can move them around but idk if it will be to high or low for the proper angle. the mounts itself should bolt to it though.
Great, I can hunt for the cross member now, thanks. I was thinking I could get a set of frame rail mounts and lower them an 1/8 of an inch. either way I will need to add them. I will leave the stock ones right where they are. seeing as it's all powder coated alreadyou:. making forward progress. Trans builder is installing heavy duty clutches. should I request anything special. I remember a thread about this.
the 2004r guys have to move it back 6 inches and redrill. now on a boxed frame its custom crossmember time. http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/tr...chevrolet-chevelle-ss-tci-4l80e-installation/ this may help some. other than the bop adapter it should be the same the process. http://www.chevydiy.com/swap-overdrive-transmissions-chevelle-step-step/ and this says you need to move it back 9 inches
