    Help!!!

We started to put down the vinyl top and the paint bubbled up when the 3M glue hit it. Unfortunately the top was already on, we quickly pulled it up and saved the top.

I put down a heavy coat of the rustoleum after sanding all the dry glue. It still bubbles with test shot. Rattle canned some more paint on and it bubbles as soon as the glue hits it. The 3M can doesn't say anything about it not touching paint or causing paint to wrinkle.

Anybody have any ideas how to stop this? Is it the enamel paint? Thicker coats? Not enough dryin time? HELP!!!!

I read somewhere that the paint should be cured atleast 30 days before using adhesive on it. :Do No: How many days has it been since the last coat of paint?

I only waited two days. Dang, that stinks. Oh well, i guess he can roll deep without the vinyl for a while. thanks for responding.

At least now I can get it out of the garage for full body pics!

You might try stripping the paint off and applying a catalized primer then the glue after a day or so. You may never be able to put the glue on that enamel paint without it lifting! We used to strip enamel paint off with just lacquer thinner even after years of drying. Good luck, but be really careful getting that paint off!!!!!!!!! Bill :beer

I wouldn't!! No, you'll have to get it in two parts and mix it, but you might be able to brush it on. I don't think you will be able to see the brush marks under the vinyl. Gook luck!! Bill

I did find catalized primer in a rattle can at the local Wesco. It's two parts in the can, there is big red button on the bottom of the can that opens a cylinder to combine the two parts. Then you shake and spray as normal, pretty cool.

Got it stripped and primed yesterday.

I've read all the threads twice and no where could I find the exact type of roller used. Does someone have a P/N, item numbers, store purchased from? Would be interested in trying this on one of my rigs. Thanks in advance.

You want to get the small white high density foam rollers. I think they are about 4-5 inches wide. Any pics coming?

I work with a guy that used Ford Blue tractor paint from Tractor Supply (TSC) on a GEO Metro. He added a hardner to it, as you suggest, and it turned out excellent. I think patience would be key.

My sons are kings at using the "fist-can" method. Krylon works good here. They found that they can adequately paint a full-size Chevy 4X4 with 15 cans of flat black.

Attached is one of my sons' S15 that was "fist-can" painted black, and I sprayed the pink SS stripes using of all things, house paint thruogh a paintgun. That was done in December of 04, and still holding up. He comes home every night with new phone numbers from girls. Seems they write their phone numbers on slips of paper, and put them under his wiperblades.

Nothing wrong with inexpensive paint jobs. ...again, patience is key.

I can't see your son's face very well in the pic but I can see the truck. I am going to go out on a limb here and guess that he is a good looking kid.

The catalized rattle can primer was $20 a can. Followed the directions and it lifted off with the adhesive. :af:

We stripped it, primed it and painted it black and we are gonna wait for warmer weather to finsh the top. Got it out of the garage, washed off the dust and it looks pretty good.

As a new body guy I can say we did a crappy job. In bright daylight with the glossy paint, you can see every dent and ding!!! My utmost respect to anybody who can get old panels laser straight, it looked good in the garage.

I will get pics up on Thursday, I'm working swing shift so I should be able to get photos in daylight.

White high density rollers, 4". I found them at Lowe's, Home Depot and local hardware store. WHITE not YELLOW.

i would definetly like to see more pics of cars done this way by members. So, if anybody is doing it, post them up.

I have never done any wet sanding. What kind of sander do I need for wet sanding? I have a couple sheet pad sanders and a belt sander.

You know skylark you'll have just as much fun or more with the car just because you did it yourself..The next one will turn out even better!!

Wetsanding is done with very very fine grit paper on final paint and should be done by hand.
