Hi. I am takin apart my 64 special convertible...the frame looks very bad in spots,,,can anyone please advise me as to where I can look to buy a good frame? website addresses would be good...I AM in Canada, but realize I will likely have to import one from the southern U.S Thanks very much cannuckray
Re: 64 Special Convertible frame ..where to buy? 64 to 66 El Camino frame should work just fine, 67 if you use the same year rear-end. I have a 65 El Camino sitting on a 65 GS frame, looks like it belongs there with no modifications. The El Camino frames are boxed just like the convertible frames.
Re: 64 Special Convertible frame ..where to buy? i have a 66 frame id sell barter etc...it has one spot on the left front frame rail that needs welded a little better and make sure its good and straight. the car was in accident and was straightend on the left front and idk how good it was done cause it was prior to my owning it. but the spot they welded could be better. the rest of it is excellent shape. not rot in it the fame or anything. im in south east ky. it is a open channel not boxed though but if im not mistake 64 didnt have the boxed frame yet.
Re: 64 Special Convertible frame ..where to buy? Hi. Thank you for the reply...unfortunately, the frame is a boxed one,,,its the same frame they use on Chevells, I will be looking more for one in the spring... Regards, cannuckray
I have a real nice 64 frame 30k miles ,but it is not boxed. You can box it in before you install it. Located in Maine. It is a rolling frame. $600 Wacko
I believe the Chevelle frames are shorter than Skylark frames. El Camino frames are the same length as the Skylark and they are boxed, so they interchange with no problems. The frames for the Shorty wagons are the right length, but not boxed and the Sport Wagon frames are boxed, but too long. So a Skylark convertible, Skylark GS, El Camino, or a boxed frame out of a Tempest, or a Cutlass would work. Good luck in your search. I have a 67 El Camino frame I'd make you a deal on. New disk brakes and probably a 3:08 rear end. It is in north western California, road trip?
Well.. I have a 65 GS chassis only (boxed). $375. It has a few spotty areas where some previous tweaking was remedied but, still a decent frame for either parts for your frame or to restore as is. HECK. . . you are planning to come to Florida anyway this winter, arent ya?? :TU: hehehe. Bring your trailer. :Brow: I have a few more pix for ya: PenWheelz2@ij.net Wheelz, Tampa Bay
Id also take it anywheres i can go in a day for the cost of my trip. Anyone that is interested in it.
that certainly looks like my frame,,is it indeed the same as a 64 convertible special frame? If so, I think for that price I will take it,,ater christmas? tapped right now...I will just find a carrier to deliver it up here to me,,or I can ask my car restoring buddy if he is heading down there in the next couple months...my fram has big spots missing, and I dunno about welding in patches etc Ray
Ray. I am pretty confident '64-65 convertible frames would be interchangable. SO,. . . if you really want this frame, we will need to discuss details, payment and pickup etc. Email me off line at the above email address.... ThanQ! Wheelz, Tampa Bay
According to my parts book, the coupe and convertible frames do not interchange, if I'm reading it correctly.o No: This is odd, considering the 65 Gran Sport used the 65 convertible frame. Perhaps the discrepancy is due to my book being a Canadian one.
Ya. the rational makes sense. . . but your parts book does seem odd, Eh? perhaps cuz Grans Sports were not produced in Canada?? o No: How bout you WildBILL? Any input on this one?
SOOO?? what is the prognosis regarding this chassis thing? Will mine work for ya? o No: Wheelz, Tampa Bay
No...The convertible is boxed,,,and I wont be ready to buy one till spring it looks like now...but I wish to say thank you! Ray
