Guys, I am looking to repro the 70-72 Skylark/GS Rear Window-Trunk Filler Panel. This would be the exterior body panel only. The rear shelf area would not be included so it could easily be shipped by UPS. I am trying to gauge interest for this part, so let me know what you think. Duane
I am surprised that no one has responded to this post. I guess this is not a needed part after all. In case you are wondering what body panel I am talking about, here is a picture of one. Duane
Duane, Dustin was telling me that you might need the speaker ledge for your 71 as well as the rear speaker, hardware, and the wire that goes up to the front.I have the wire and the speaker out of a 70 if they are the same(still in the original spot) and the ledge that came out of a 72 I parted out is in very decent shape. The piece that you pictured (outer panel)has some bondo in it,but you wouldn't need that part if you only need the speaker shelf part only. The other owner made a small slit in it about an inch long when he did some bondo repair, but it could be welded and noone would ever suspect it.If you would possibly be interested,I will get some shots of it and email them to you.If not no biggie. Thanks,Pat
Pat, I am looking for the parts you described. I don't need the outer body panel, just the inside shelf area, especially where some a** cut the speaker area out. Go ahead and send the picks, we can always trade for the post door you need. Duane
Duane, I for one could use the replacement panel. My 72 has the typical rust under the window chrome. I looked everywhere for a good replacement panel but gave up. If you reproduce them count me in for one. Brian
I would think that this would be a much needed piece since most of the non restored skylarks I see have bubbling in this area (vinyl top) or rot from debris settling under window chanel like my hardtop. Obviously I would be in the market if I weren't buying your nice example. Just out of curiousity, since the GS shares the same trunk lid as the chevelle would this panel be the same as the chevelle ones which they repro, I don't think so but just wondering if anyone tried to match that area up on the two cars. Allen
Allen, The panel for the buicks is unique, due to the differences in the back windows. The Chevelle rear window is almost straight across on the bottom, but the Buick window curves up in the middle. The chrome trim around the windows is also different. There is a GS I have seen at the Nats with a Chevelle rear window/filler panel. Most people never notice, or if they do wonder why it looks funny. See you Sunday. Duane
Duane, Dustin will be(better be) sending you a couple pics of that panel to you.PM or email me your adress and I will drop the wire and the speaker bolts and nuts in the mail to you.I found out why the speaker was left in the car too.Someone gave the wire a tug and it pulled the part that the wire hooks to on the speaker itself right off. So,the speaker is no good.I also found one of the bolts in the 70 GS car I recently parted out too.I am planning on running an old style aftermarket stereo,so I wont need these for my cars. Pat
Pat, That's great, and I would like you to send the ruined speaker also. That way I could use it as a reference piece. I will PM you my address. Duane
Duane, That sheet metal section is needed. I wondered if you contacted Tabco, Sherman&Assoc and/or Goodmark to see if they have this part in the "works" I think they could use some input from the Buick owners. I have tried for years to get Goodmark to make an original GS hood since they make the Chevelle and GTO hoods to no avail. I don't think our 70-2 GS hoods would be much more difficult to make than the 70-2 GTO hoods.
Yes, it would work but will look strange. The piece is not hard to make and I would suggest you keep your Buick looking like a Buick!:Brow:
Dustin, That shelf area will work fine. I only need the flat inside shelf area, not the outside body panel, or the black painted area at the rear window. Basically all I need are the areas around the rear speaker and rear window defogger where someone butchered my shelf for speakers. Duane
I don't want to change the subject here but if a replacement panel isn't available how are so many people fixing the rusty holes at the bottom of the window. I only ask because I'm at that step in my body work and need a solution.
Only way to solve the problem is cut out the bad areas and make a new panel from some sheet metal. Not difficult but very time consuming.:TU:
As of now,I currently have (2) panels exactly like this one for a 70 GS car and also a 71-71 car. These are a bear to cut out and I made sure they are cut big enough to that you have all the material to do this change to your car. These both have only minor surface rust underneath and the window ledge and speaker shelves are in great condition.I am asking $250 each plus shipping.I would rather have them picked up due to the fact they are a pain to try to get someone to ship them as to their size. Pat
Just a thought but is there a way to cut the shelf off the outer pan and ship them seperately ? I am in need of this panel and will either get a rust free one from AZ rust free parts ( $$$$$) or find a nice example that can be used . This part should be reproduced . The way I am looking at it it looks as if the speaker area and the outer panel are 1 piece . If the come apart then I would be interested in a new one and just try to find a unrusted speaker area . So how does this work 1 piece or 2 or more ? Oh Duane I am sending you a PM on the GSX wheel .
Start stampin' Duane, these are definitely needed...... here, these yeller smily fellers already have the dies---:beer There you go!!!!:TU:
