When I get to my computer tomorrow I'll post a link here and ask BaT why they deleted your posts for you
The Sloan docs posted, while not the greatest picture & hence why I listed them, shows how the car was optioned orig.
Yeah, hmm, why are they so hard to read since they are supposed to be important. The Sloan docs and order form are easy enough to read for those who know how to read them...and they don't show the important option, Stage 1. BTW, more has changed to that car than the options listed on the order form...
Why delete the photo? That would just hide the wrong decal and be fraudulent in and of itself. I'd rather see what I am buying.
Okay, keep the Stage 1 emissions sticker photo, but at least have a disclaimer that it is a fake... Bottom line, you want to see what you are buying, then go inspect it in person. Otherwise, at least make the seller have a basic credible narrative. The ONLY thing I am asking the seller to deny, is the Stage 1 description. He isn't saying it is, he knows it isn't, yet he is doing everything he can to confuse those who aren't as smart as you. The rest of the car is really in less than great shape - ask him to remove the air breather and disclose the non-rochester carb. Typical BaT auction...
Hey Chris, it's pretty obvious to me and everyone else here what the truth is and what isn't. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt, and let you act like a man to get out of this without calling you out to BaT and most likely get banned by: A) give that seller a legit apology. B) admit to the fellas and gals here that you're straight up lying about the deletion of your supposed posts for whatever reason. C) actually say that you either didn't know that all stage 1s were built in Flint or were just trying to be an internet troll (you still haven't addressed why you asked what being built in Flint has to do with a '70 Stage 1). As you've seen, I know how to screenshot things, so don't try to delete your posts here, you'll just make yourself look silly. I have no connection with that car or the seller, but I can't stand someone trying to be a big man on campus and ruin someone else's car sale. Be an adult. Do the right thing. Or I'd imagine the name chesapeakechris is going to hold about as much water as a plastic 5 gallon bucket that's got about ten 1/2" holes drilled in the bottom of it....Goodnight y'all. "See" you in the morning.
It's one of the thousands of cars out there that have Stage 1, LS6, W-30, RAIV, etc. emblems but isn't. Anyone bidding thinking it's a Stage 1 is a fool. Were I selling it would I be more forthcoming & would I have sent BAT better pics of the Sloan Docs? Absolutely. Do sellers on there hurt themselves by not being forthcoming? Absolutely.
Yep, you and - everybody else. Please "call me out" to BaT, they know who I am. The truth is out there and I hope you find it...
And that's all I'm saying...BUT, often times sellers like this confuse ignorant bidders, who for the least of it all just drive up the price... I buy about 10 GS's/Skylark's a year sight unseen (mostly '70-'72 convertibles), clean them up and resell them. I average about $8K per vehicle/net. My capital gains cap is $83,350, I just pay state tax. That is Fed tax-free money in my pocket. I have a simple formula that works. Every time some idiot misrepresents their car, I figure the winning bidder pays (on average) about 20% too much due to ignorant bidders. That costs everybody more money than needed. So I NEVER give a seller an inch of leeway - all I ever ask is state the truth and document it, anything else is BS...
Oh, by the way for those who don't know (with all these crazy prices for cars these days)... Pick an auction house (especially BaT and Mecum); they have been caught, red handed selling fake Stage 1 cars for $80K - $160K at 8% - 10% profits. The unsuspecting buyers wind up hearing this from their state attorney's office; the auction house isn't liable and unless you can find the seller and bring them to court, you are better off taking the loss. And the auction house gets to keep their profits and continue...
You can’t blame it all on the dealers an auction houses the buyer has a responsibility to do their homework ! Less of course it’s a $500 Chevrolet citation.
Alrighty, question has been posted to the auction directly to Bring a Trailer with a link to this thread. Does anyone else find it interesting that..... A) Chris here buys about 10 Skylarks/GS cars a year, but didn't know until yesterday that all Stage 1s were built in Flint? I'd think someone who has owned and resold so many of these cars would have that stored as common knowledge. He's got to be right up there in the top 5 guys on here for number of cars owned by now at 10/year. B) Chris here doesn't ever post about his finds/purchases/projects he performs to them? I'd think that would be useful and fun to share with everyone. C) Chris here doesn't ever post his 10 Buicks he buys/resells for sale here on V8Buick? Seems like this would be a captive audience for those cars for sale, especially ones that are researched/purchased/documented/worked on/resold by such an outstanding pillar of Buick knowledge and skill? Plus, I mean, it's free to advertise here. Seems kinda strange to me..... Now, I'm no "shrink", but I bet dollars to donuts if a certain someone on this thread went to a paid visit with one, they'd walk out of the office with the term "pathological" and another word attached to them.
I agree - buyer beware, but it just drives the price higher and higher. Every auction I follow that has BS for info I lay blame where I see it. When the auction house is given the correct info and won't change the description, I blame the auction house. When it's the seller making erroneous/confusing statements, I lay blame there.
If it was me, I’d be patient and buy a car in private sale with documentation, inspection No bullshit.
