Nice looking. I think its a NON stage car but built to stage specs. Post does not say if its a numbers match car. https://www.gaaclassiccars.com/vehicles/39830/1970-buick-gsx
Looks like it has a non stage 1 emissions decal on it. So I would agree, non stage car. Beautiful car nonetheless
Interesting, this was previously owned by Steven Dove. The docs from Wayne Roberts for this car do not list the Stage 1 option. Looks like a nice car. I'd be proud to own it.
I will be interested in seeing this first hand when its at auction but from what I can see in the pics it really looks like a very nicely done GSX. I wonder how long the current owner has owned it and did they buy it from Steven directly. Yeah I agree I like to see a little of the color of the car between the grill and bumper just brings the entire front end together when it has the pop of color.
It needs more than an adjustment, the bumper appears to be bent like so many other '70 Buicks. I'm not bashing the car, this is a very common issue with these Buicks. I wouldn't let this stop me from bidding if I was in a position to buy a car like this.
Yea when I looked a little closer I seen the bend....I've pulled them down on the frame machine using blocks of wood and the frame pulley
I would always advise a person to test fit a '70 bumper before having it rechromed. It's heartbreaking to find out after it's rechromed that it has issues. I find it interesting that someone swapped to the early production pointed lens and installed a standard 12-hour clock instead of the 24-hour clock that is used with Rally gauges. My dad also installed pointed lens in a GSX over 30 years ago because we thought they looked cool and didn't care that they were incorrect.
The body number on this car is 242108. Body number 242107 is another GSX that was identically built to this car and also shipped to a Texas dealer.
In the mid 1980s I did the same thing. Back then I didn't realize that it was a mid-year production run change. I thought someone had installed the wrong gauges in my 1970 model car, so I set out to "correct" their error.
Steven unfortunately lost his life about 20 years ago in a tragic accident heading home from a Buick event in Ohio I believe. He also owned my GSX previous to this one. Thanks to him and his research, I have full ownership history to new. I’ll have to pull the book out , but I believe it had thirty some odd thousand miles on it back when he got it. I’d expect this X would have a healthy documentation package put together by Steven as well.
This bumper is banana shaped from the outside edge to the center on each side. I would think that if the damage was from a tow truck sling it would have pushed the bumper up evenly all the way across the middle, including the center. Back in the day I did damage to one side of my bumper similar to what this bumper shows. I did that damage by trying to jack my car up using the factory bumper jack.
To me it seems the old style tow truck strap lifts in the weak part of the bumper. I think this is why we see so many damaged. .
