I was at the drag strip a couple months ago and a group of kids walked by discussing the advantages their buddy's new supercharger. In a rather loud voice, one of them referred to my 70 Skylark sitting there as "no contest". My freind overheard this and let me know what was said, so I proceeded to make sure I was next to the 'stang in the staging lanes. Needless to say, my 1.66 60 ft and 7.90 at 93 mph pass kinda proved that an 8.60 may be good for a street car but, you shouldn't dish us grey hared old guys with our stock appearing muscle cars. After the race, I was walking up to congrat the guy for making a good pass and heard his buddy, the same one with the big mouth, say "I can't believe that Buick beat you". I then felt obligated to let his buddy know that my motor was stock except for an Edlebrock B4B, headers, and a 750 Demon carb. We were both running slicks and I later found out he was spraying a 150 shot of NOS and still got beat! This is why I've always had the attitude of, "I DON'T CARE WHAT YOUR BUDDY HAS, WHATTA YOU GOT?" I really get sick and tired of people running down other's cars when they are walking or don't even hava a car at the strip. The rest of the night was spent running 5 more 5.0's with only one giving me a decent race. He almost had me, but my holeshot kept me out of his reach. He had a 351 stroker, 5 speed, supercharger, and of course, enough NOS to kill a Hemi. :spank:

But not enough to beat a Buick. Good kill and great job flying the Buick banner

What is it about Mustangs (the american rice?) and their owners. My daughter had some guy bad mouthing her GN. Her line that shuts them up " you got a hundred bucks or just want to get beat by a girl."

a buddy of mine who used to have an '87 gn with ported heads was just wasted one night. his girlfriend had to drive. They were just headed home mind'n their own busininess, and this dipchit with a 5.0(sounding very unstock) proceeded to be annoying as possible. "v-6's aint chit" and the usual BS you can some to expect from a stang guy. His then girl freind had no idea how to build boost. no clue. he just told her to "hit it!". of coarse the stang got about a length ahead with no boost built, but then :3gears: :3gears: :3gears:. she pulled even and then ahead. then a light. next light again. next light, more mouthing. " v-6 ain't chit"(or something like that--- again) she said "you just got beat with not chit with a chick driv'n it!". then he shut up and pealed off. how cool of him. dork.

that just cracks me up, that a guy with a 5.0 would run around saying crap about other peoples displacement. You have a very small 8 my friend about .2 liters diffrence than that GN. I may have a small block in my GS but i dont go around with any attitude. and i got .7 on him anyways :Brow:

I guess it depends on who the guy is that has a mustang as to how mouthy they can be. My grandpa has an '04 mustang GT 5 speed, and he thinks it's a really fast car(hey, so do I) but whenever he sees an older muscle car or any classical american car for that matter, he don't tie into them or mess with them. I guess being wise comes w/ age though. Most of the older cars around here are not stock anyways, and most people don't want to tie into them. There is a few concours cars running around but not much. Heck, we have about 3 '70's malibus that have 12 second 350's running in them, they come to show them off at a car show. There are at least 4 GN's in this area that are running around that I know of, and a '71 skylark w/ a '73 buick 455 in it that's not stock! :bglasses: If anything, my grandpa pulls over and salutes the owners of the fine classics! :TU: And I join w/ him! :) There are a few mustangs around here, some of them do act like ricers. One guy has a '92 GT convertible that is far from stock, I think he is running a 150 shot of NOS as well, and he swerves in and out of traffic like a ricer! :Dou: His car may be nice, but boy he sure does have an attitude. :error:

    Oh, and nice kill! :3gears:

  7. Most of these types of people at the track are someones friend with a big mouth that just want to stir trouble and know nothing about any car except how to open the passenger side door and slip into the back seat.I have lots of friends that do own the American Rice Rocket and one friend spends a lot of time on his carburated Mustang that uses the bottle and this car drives two hours to the track and can run 10:40s all day long and drive it back home.I myself tip my ballcap to him.He is a lot younger than myself and has chosen not to go to the dark side and drive a Honda or Mazda or one of these Jap. built cars.

I myself hear people talking about my 65 saying things about it and there is no way no matter what I do or run to make these people happy, but like with the poster you have to get some satifaction and sometimes it is with a better time ticket.

rice is more of the driver than the car. It just so happens that 90% of these idiots drive imports, 9% drive mustangs and the 1% at my school that drives a old beat up porshe and thinks its the greatest thing ever.

this kids porsche isnt anything special. Its pretty beat up and and he really drives it hard. We was trying to race me last year when leaving school but it was really poitless seeing how there was construction on the road (dixie and m-15) He was behind me and kept reving at me and when we started moving he came around me and whent into the other lane. Wrong move that lane was closed and he had to lock them up and slid to a hault just before hitting the big blinking board with an arrow. It was stop and go so i pulled up next to him shaking my head and my friend Justine was laughing at him.

thats just proof that you dont need to drive a honda to be an idiot, all though i do think they are positively correlated

    This brings up another story...

There is a kid at my school that drives a Porshce, I am unsure of the year but it can't be more than 10 years old. Has "Boxer" written across the trunk lid, so I assume that's the model it is. It's pretty fast, he can do some good and smokey burnouts with it, but it should be faster for the money he proably paid for it, because he and one of my buddies at school that has a '78 ford ranger w/ a 351/automatic/highway gears(2wd), body has some rust on it, you know the deal, other than the body it has, it's mechanically healthy, and the kid w/ the porsche raced him for about a 2 mile stretch almost and the ranger beat him. I was riding gunshot w/ Ross(the kid w/ the ranger). It was a nice long stretch of road, close to 2 miles long at least, and it's abandoned so there is no traffic on it whatsoever...what not a better place to race, eh? We had about a half a "truck" length on him from start to around 110 and then we pulled slowly away from him. I am assuming we had to be going at least 140 or close to it. Scary in a truck! It does have a new suspension though, and was converted to coil springs instead of the old leaf springs. So as far as staying on the road we were safe. I would have thought the porsche would smoke us on both ends, but I guess I was wrong. We had almost 2 lengths on him before we had to come to a stop! He nodded at us after the race and drove off/ and we earned bragging rights for Ross's old truck at school now, lol! It may be a ferd, but it's quick for as heavy as it is...I'll give it credit for that... :bglasses:

    Reason for 1/8th mile

In response to the question on why I run 1/8th now, thank NHRA and IHRA requiring shorter tracks due to faster speeds and short shutdown areas. Most tracks have gone to 1/8th or 1000 ft due to traction technology catching up to engine output. Just watch the old videos on t.v. and you'll notice that the old dragsters and funny cars smoked the tires almost all the way down the track. Just imagine how fast they would've been with today's tires. Most tracks are locked in due to development and the price of purchasing additional land to increase the shutdown area. I'll be running again this thursday night and I'll post some more times afterwards. I've been challenged by my landlord to put up or shut up about his back halved 408 Nova on alcohol. I called it "can't beat a Buick" after he ran 2 passes on a cold track. His times were 8.19 and 8.25 and I ran 7.90 and 7.95. In his defense, he usually runs high 6's with it but couldn't hook that night. As far as I'm concerned, first one there wins, no excuses!

It was scary actually(you could feel the wind making the truck feel like it's starting to float which was what made it so scary!)....to watch a porsche get a whippin' like it did though made it all worth while. And the porsche guy actually acknowledged and admitted that the truck was pretty fast. By no means did we truly "smoke" him, but we had at least close to 2 lengths, so that's still good. The 351 in that truck has some power, amazingly. I have always been skeptical about trucks of what kind of power they had(especially top end), but I guess if they have a good suspension and are geared right, they can do some amazing things. The truck is a slug on take off...it had better have something on top end, lol. :bglasses: That was the first time and probably the last time I am ever going that fast in a truck again! :spank:

I have tried to resist this but it has to be said, there is no way a stock explorer can do 140 mph. :spank:

If you are referring to my post, then I have some things to tell you. Number 1: it's not an explorer, it's a pick up. Do you even know what an explorer is? Number 2: Did I say it was stock? No, don't think so. And number 3: I didn't say we were doing 140, I said that I assumed we were going AT LEAST 140, assuming that was how fast we were going, I can't tell you in reality since the speedo doesn't go that high. I will tell you though that the needle was a little past the 6 'o clock position, and that's how I ASSUMED that we were near 140 or at 140 mph. Next time you might want to consider proof reading before replying. :Dou:

Landlord didn't show. Scared I guess. Anyway, da Buick went 7.90 and 7.94 all night spinning off the line. Consistant tho, all 5 passes 1.732 60 ft times. Mph depended on shift point, better at 5500 than at 6000. Beat 3 more 'Stangs and 1 Crumaro.

moparman..... what can I say? that original post - very nice. nothing pisses me off more than people talking down my car. every time my brother or I talk about our Buicks, we got 20 a$$holes ready to jump us and tell us that they got a faster car or they know of a car that will smoke our regals. its funny how when its time to race, they have more excuses than I have cubic inches under the hood. excuse the hell out of me for not worshiping small block chevys. my philosophy is "if you dont have a car, you dont have a voice" "if you have a car, i dont want to hear how fast it is. show me!"
