Anyone (Rich, Chris) in the Chicago area planning to do a test and tune?
Need to get my son some seat time, and have to work out a few gremlins in the car. Bob

Might be in town for some leave in May, if y'all work it out I'll tag along. I'd have to get the hot rod out of storage and get the bugs out to get it rolling though.:bglasses:

I was thinking Route 66, but Byron works too. I haven't set a date yet, but need to get my butt in gear. I have a friend who a) is interested in Pure Stock Racing and b) wants to do some TnT. He has a 70 442 convertible for anyone wondering.

    Hey guys,
The Chicago Chapter is having our 1st race of the year at Byron on the 27th.
Byron's running T&T that day also, so if you go, stop by the hill and say hi, that's where we will be. :3gears:

    Hey Guys!

Sorry for the late reply Bob. I was out of town this last weekend and didn't have the chance to reply till now.

I am interested, although my time is somewhat limited right now ie; daughters first communion, yadda yadda yadda . Best thing to do is for you guys to make the plans, and then I'll see if I can fit it in.

Or maybe I'll just show up carless ,and drive Jim's car this time. I think I owe his beautiful Chevelle some involuntary flywheel resurfacing.:3gears: Right Jimi !!!:Brow:

My thoughts were to go to Byron on a Sunday. Two dates I'm considering are April 27 or May 18. Anyone have any other ideas? Bob

make it the 27th, with a rain date (ducks as a piston is hurled his direction) of May 18.

btw, while it is a drive for some, US 41 in Morocco, IN is back open.

Just checked the weather forecast for Sunday, 30% chance for rain. Should we wait till May 18 and hope the weather will be better? Bob

did a little work on the W-31 last night and it's ready for a test drive to see if my issue is fixed. If I can get it fixed I think I'll make it to Byron on Sun. Cool temps and only a small chance for rain. I think the last TnT we arranged there was a chance of rain also as I remember driving through a nasty t-storm on my way to the track.
If my issue isn't fixed, I guess I'll keep trying to see if I can solve it in order to show up Sun.

well, just got back from a test drive. W-31 is still hesitating, around 4800rpm, 5300rpm. I swapped the coil from the GT-37 to the W-31, so it's not that. I'm leaning towards the fuel pump now since those are known to have low pressure. I do have a correct NOS Delco W-31 pump. So I'm leaning towards the car ain't making it to Byron Sun. I might have a chance to look at it some Sat afternoon. As for the GT-37, part of the front end is torn down for brakes, so the Pontiac ain't making it regardless.

Check the fuel lines for rotted out hoses or a plugged sock in the tank...:TU:

all rubber fuel lines were replaced within the last few years. plugged sock in the tank I suppose is possible. I've dropped that damn tank at least twice in the last couple years :blast: getting sick of doing it.

With the weather forecast being what it is, I'm thinking that May 18 is looking better all the time.
Chris has the metal fuel line been replaced? Last year at Martin my car wouldn't go past 4800 RPMs. I replaced the inline filter and found rust, next I dropped the tank, clean as could be. Replaced the sock while the tank was out. What I finally found was the fuel line was rusted closed to about the size of lead in a pencil, the outside of the line looked great. Replaced the whole line and its running much better. 4900 RPMs now!LOL

If you guys decide on May 18th as a target date, I can probably make that. With only a wedding to go to the day prior, I think that would be doable for me.

I'm also trying to obtain a few more parts for tuning, so that slightly expanded time horizon would help with that.

Chris, just do what I do. Fill the washer bottle with gas,put the lid on tight, and run the rubber fuel line right to the carb..The under hood temp. will cause the washer bottle to pressurize pushing fuel to the carb.. Now you won't be wasting all that hp driving the fuel pump.

Racers secret ,ya. But what are friends for!

Jim, I've been practicing my launch technique for your Chevelle on my "Super Shifter Game" .Lets see.... hold engine at 6000 rpm and slid foot sideways off clutch and floor it ! I think I'm ready!:3gears:

Bob, that could be it too. part of the line is new, but not the entire one.

I also had a friend suggest the fuel filter in the carb could have rust or crud in it thus causing a restriction.

Rich, thanks for the tip :TU: and since my washer bottle is black, no one would know whats in it :Brow:

edit: May 18 it is. That gives me some time. Thinking out loud, when is mothers day?
