That speedometer is correct for that car even though it seems redundant for a floor shift automatic. The only other speedo produced in 70 thru 72 was the 4speed unit which was not punched out for the PRND etc gears. :beer
Floor shift auto trans 70 GS/ GSX / Skylark custom cars also had the trans position indicator in the speedo. So that feature is correct.
Car has been relisted-25k no reserve- won't be relisted again-Looks to be the "thick" GSX steering wheel. Shifter handle should be woodgrain? More correct than not? Worth another look.
It also has flat gauge lens- late 70 production-could also be why shifter handle is black. If it is a copy done by an amatuer some time ago, he would have to come up with a steering wheel and dash pad plus all the emblems and decals.
If I am not mistaken the reason for the redundancy on the PRNDL is that the console is not lighted so at night you can see the indicator .
\ John I am with you on that. Plus by having a gear selection indicator forward on the dash you can change gears by sight and feel while keeping the road in view.
If you look at it from GM's point of view, why make three different speedos when you can get by with just two. I think it was more a question of dollars and cents
What about the other GM A-body sister cars (Cutlass/442, Chevelle & LeMans/GTO)? Did they have a lighted console shift indicator or redundant indicators in the dash?
Cutlass models did not have PRNDL on the speedo when equipped with buckets and console for automatic cars. What is nice about them, the console has a light and translucent lens so the PRNDL light up at night.
Its back on e-bay again, $25,000 no reserve! Someone needs to inspect this car. Could be a deal.......Chris
The current seller may not know much about the car, but I was put in touch with a previous owner and spoke to him on the phone earlier today. If you are seriously interested in this car, feel free to send me a PM and I will tell you what I learned.
I will be in Odessa on Sunday this week. I can take a look at this car and get any information anybody might need if interested.
I'm starting to wonder if my quest for an Apollo white GSX needs to look elsewhere...too many questions
How about this car? http://autabuys.com/Vehicles/Details.cfm?VID=164508 This car has none number motor but has a concours restoration by Mark Reeves with pedigree. Seems like a good price to me. Mark
Thanks Mark...I'll have to check into that one. I'm one of those oddballs that prefers the Apollo White. I came REAL close to going ahead and bidding on the 25K one, but my gut just kept saying, let that fish loose...hope I wasn't wrong
I can't believe the low price on that car. Was BCA a body of the year winner at Dallas Nats. This is a really great car, a deal for someone to buy and DRIVE IT. If someone buys the car, I still have the original build sheet. Mark
