It would not be worth $25K if it is not a GSX. For a non-numbers, non-Stage1 GSX in need of work it seems like a okay deal. I think that you took less risk than it would be for someone else since you have your own bodyshop. I would definitely try to verify it is a GSX before I passed the check. I do think the market is softening for anything that is not a pristine exotic. The supercar collectors probably are not too much impacted by the economy. An all-numbers Stage GSX is still going to attract the attention of a collector. But that $35K-$75K range does not seem to be as active as it was. Guys that were paying $50K for non-numbers restored car that can actually be driven without risking the investment just don't seem to be there. It could also be seasonal because the summer over. And with the auto industry in BAD shape, where many of the car enthusiasts are, there are more cars available because of distressed sales. That pushes prices down a bit.
There is a board member offering some info on the car...I was going to do some digging but decided against it on this one. Here is the post from 1972 Stage 1 earlier in this thread: The current seller may not know much about the car, but I was put in touch with a previous owner and spoke to him on the phone earlier today. If you are seriously interested in this car, feel free to send me a PM and I will tell you what I learned.
Matt - Definitely CYA on this one. The the top bidder, who chose not to follow through, has close to 1100 positive feedbacks and his Ebay user name is GSX, so it's quite likely that he knows a thing or two about X's and isn't some flake who bids just for the hell of it. I'd be very curious as to why he decided to pass. Perhaps you can talk to him before you dish out the cash. Perform your due diligence... Donny
Matt, I have the phone number of the previous owner of the car and he can tell you the history if you are interested. Since I have not personally seen the car, I decided not to post, PM, or email it's history, but will gladly share the information with any board member who wants to talk on the phone. Send me a PM with your phone number and I will put you in contact with the man who owned it BEFORE the doctor.
I talked to wayne last night and he said that it wasnt a bad deal and that it was a real gsx with a whole lot of options. He said that it suprised him with how many options that were listed. :TU: Since Im not buying it to sell anytime soon, I dont see it as a bad investment. The owner said that it had no frame damage ever and no hard impacts. It has had work in one of the doors though and it needs to be taken down to the metal and painted. I would just put a correct date coded door on it.
actually I was terrified today after talking to a previous owner. It scared me so bad that I called my driver and told him to turn around. If anyone wants the guys number that I talked to, pm me, but I wont post it. I have a car that I can get my driver to pick up for me on the way back, so the trip wasnt completely shot, just about 5 hours will be lost. Its been a rough day.
Matt, Sorry to hear it did not work out as you had hoped but glad to hear you were able to make a decision based on better information. Keep looking and I think you will find one. Mark
Guys, Ive got a ton of emails on this. If you arent a serious buyer for this, then dont question me about it. If you are a friend and want the scoop on it, of course your welcome to call, but if I dont know you and you arent a serious buyer, then dont bother asking because I cant answer all these that Im receiving. I have seriously got about 15 or 20 emails to answer here lol. The info is easy to find if you research it a bit. Some of the previous owners are Curtis Roys (I think thats how you spell it), Mr. Taylor, Dr. Garza, and the current owner is Marlin. Start at the bottom and work your way up. I dont feel comfortable telling what I found out on the board so just do what I did and research it. Youll learn everything you need to know.
I don't understand what the big secret or secrets are about this car.....if someone would post the problem(s) with it then there would not be many pm/phone calls/direct emails about it. If the car had the frame swapped out, non-orig engine, re-body....etc then that is reflected in the price and should be disclosed........is someone's feelings going to get hurt here??? This soap opera sounds like a bunch of teenage girls in high school.
That is exactly the way I took it and decided I didn't have time to fool w/ it. The only people that know anything won't post anything o No:
I think people are leery of posting something bad they heard about the car that they haven't verified as being true. I, of course, am not that bashful. :Brow: I "heard" that the car may have been wrecked really bad at one time (a long time ago), and may have ended up in a salvage yard with a branded title. The car was purchased from the yard and put back together, but moreso with bondo than with new body panels. The car also left the state in which it received the branded title, and was re-titled in another state, with a clean title. This may or may not have been on purpose, as states didn't pay as much attention to this years ago as they do now. Could have simply been that someone moved and had to re-title the car. I also heard that the current owner is a "flipper" (not that there is anything wrong with thatp ), which is why he doesn't know much about the car. Although, I do believe the above information was brought to his attention while the car was listed on eBay. I have not heard if the car is a real GSX or not, and it frankly didn't matter to me. All of the above is hearsay, second or third or fourth hand information, and it may all be completely true or completely false. I mean no intentional harm by posting it, nor have I intenionally misrepresented anything that I heard. You should not rely on the above information, and you should not make a purchasing decision based on it, but rather you should do your own investigating. And PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL ME with questions about the information. And if you know more, or can correct me, please post here!
Good intentions? Around these parts it's called Balls:beers2: Thanks Chris, I can stop viewing this post and get back to important stuff on the Board:TU:
Somebody ought to inspect the car because just because it had a previous salvage title doesn't mean it was a terribly bad wreck or damage.I've owned and rebuilt alot of salvage title cars in my lifetime and most of them were repaired by me and with spending as little as $100.00 to $1000.00 to repair them and many were drivable when purchased.Remember to thread a weeks back where a member had a nice 65 GS that needed a rh fender, bumper, grille and his insurance wanted to total the car?
I`ll second RD`s thoughts! It was a common practice in Florida, some time ago, to rework a car and give it a "salvage title". The shop needed to be very careful on the 'method of repair' because if there was a problem then they could be held the responsible party in such a case.
If anyone wants the wayne roberts reports on this gsx, I have it here for 100. I paid 150. Just pm me and Ill give you my paypal address.
