Ohh yeh you must be extremely excited. I'm busting in my jeans over one engine and you got 3 on deck lol. Are you going out to watch the dynos or just getting him to do it and ship the engines back out to you?
Thanks, I’m just getting them dynod on video then shipped. It would be nice to visit however as you know I also run a small corporation so there are no days off.
Yes I hear ya, this Canada day weekend is my first full weekend off in over 3 months. Post up some videos once you get them dynoed!
Half my family is Canadian ( my Mom was imported to the USA by my Dad, LOL) Going up there 100s of times was always fun, you Canadians are GREAT people
Dyno day is fast approaching and I am gathering up all the little things that I need to bring (or what I feel could be needed) in preparation to making sure I can fix and or make changes on the fly. I had to cut up a brand new engine cart to make it fit the Buick block. The one I bought from Princes Auto (your guys Harbour Freight equivalent) said "universal" but we all know that's code for it ain't fitting your BBB bro! I'm getting excited to see what this sucker makes! Larry so far hasn't chimed in with his HP/TQ guesstimate yet after he asked for me to post up the specs.
Bad news Buick fans. It turns out the flywheel I borrowed for my dyno session turned out to not be for a Buick. It fits the hub, teeth count is right but the bolt pattern is off. I think it's for an olds/Pontiac and somehow got mixed in with his 4spd parts that he got. Why didn't I realize this a week ago, well let me tell ya why. I just got the bolts tonight for it and went to bolt it up, and then the stomach wrenching feeling started when none of the holes lined up no matter how many times I spun it around. So unless someone has one to lend me and can get it tom me by tomorrow evening the dyno session is going to be postponed until I can find one. I have some feelers out to see if I can find another one locally but so far it's not looking to promising.
When you said the flywheel was for a pontiac I was pretty sure it wouldn't fit and if it did it would be weighted differently. Most dyno place have a plate that will bolt to a turbo torque converter bolt pattern so you can use the proper flex plate. I only know of 2 turbo torque converter bolt pattern and most aftermarket flexplates will do both.......the dyno plate is normally neutral balanced and the dyno splines to it
Hey Ben I appreciate you're input as always! Yeh the guy at this place was very adamant that we need a manual trans flywheel inorder to run my engine on it. I already spoke to him about the flexplate and he said it won't bolt up to it. Unfortunately we don't have alot of engine dyno shops around here and Buick guys are far and few between so it's very hard to pull all this together. I got some feelers out so hopefully I can get all this to pan out, it just may take a bit longer.
So every motor they run there has to have a manual flywheel????? Seems like they need to invest in the proper parts so they can get more clients motors on
I had the same issue and after planes, trains and automobiles managed to get one up here to Edmonton. I actually took it as carry on on a flight home lol. I did have a false start as well as someone thought when I asked for a flywheel that I meant flexplate but that got sorted out eventually. I wouldn’t be able to get it to you for tomorrow but if you strike out locally out east let me know and we can work something out.
Ok thanks for the offer, I'll let you know how I make out. So far I reached out to a local member and he's going to check if he still has his old one and I may be getting one sent up from Hugger to use. I'm reaching far and wide to try and make this happen.
News flash Buick fans I got the flywheel today and verified its fitment along with making sure bolts I bought were right, and they are. Well we're good to go dynoing right!!! Wrong, my dyno guy emails me at he end of the day saying something broke on the dyno during his last pull and he's hoping to get it fixed next week. Now my appointment is pushed back until next Saturday, bummer. I guess we have one more week to prep.
