Exactly - I was in no hurry but thinking I might want to get a couple pairs plated sooner than later. Might have to make s trip to Syracuse & see Sandy's & @UticaGeoff, lol.
69.... That's how I found out about Sandy's... I was going to use New England Chrome Plating in Connecticut. During the process, I had to drop my bumper off to them "before 04:45 as the truck is leaving to bring them to our sister facility in Syracuse". From there, I performed a search and found Sandy's. Sandy's quote was $200 LESS than the New England Chrome quote... I am not saying the NEC is doing this... I just found it odd that they were bringing a TRUCKLOAD (box truckload) of bumpers to be rechromed in Syracuse... and the only chromer I found there was Sandy's....
George you are correct. We got it out of NE chrome they do use Sandy. It all depends if you want to drive out there. Might be a wash unless you do a bunch like you did.
How long has Sandy's used NE Chrome? I drove to NE chrome in 2011 and 2012 to get bumpers done. You mean I could have driven less than 1 hour each way instead of 3+? UticaGeoff ps. Looking forward to meeting up with Dano in Syracuse.
I know this is about a specific chrome shop but those of you in the south, I have used Speed Sport Chrome in Houston with great success. The do triple plating and are excellent at straightening bumpers. I have had three 67 GS (Skylark) bumpers done and it has been at least 2-3 years and they were $1400 with me paying shipping to them from Fort Worth and I drove to Houston to pick them up. Saved big bucks. They have a great reputation and quite a backlog when I was using them. They advertise in national magazines. Father and son operation.
El Paso Electroplating was $375 ea, quoted over the phone. Obviously they haven't seen them, one has a dent, and the other needs slight tweaking, so am guessing will be somewhat higher. Nor did they say which "level" it was.
Wow that is a deal. Wonder what the quality is like ? Could be for chroming only as they can't be allowing much for labor unless they have super low overhead.
They might given where they are. I believe there are people that legally come across the border daily to go to work.
Just got front and rear bumpers along with rear tail light bezels and reverse light bezels back for my 66 GS from BAR Plating in Meriden CT. Fantastic job 2000.00 for everything. Only takes Cash payment though.
I got the same quote from Ogden Chrome (easy for me to drop off/pick up as it’s 30 miles from me). Has caused me to look at other options. I do like chrome bumpers but not that much. Did you find somewhere you could ship bumpers to and get a different deal?
I got a quote from them last year to do my rear bumper, gas filler lid and taillight bezels. It was just shy of $5K CDN. I wasn't too impressed with that price so I'll be shopping around. I've heard they're the best around Southern Ontario but come on man it will be over $10K to do all the chrome on my Riv, that's more than I paid for the car .
Guys that can't afford to have the bumpers rechromed, you might consider vinyl wrapping them if you can get your mind to be ok with doing it. The newer "chrome" vinyls look amazing and it's a few hundred dollars to have it done. They'll also last years and years especially if your car is in a garage most the time.
That's not a bad idea Lucas! A guy a few doors down from me had his camaro wrapped in chrome and I'm talking the entire car along with mirror tinted windows that use to be cool back in the 90's- 2000's. It was definitely unique, not my cup of tea. But the bumper idea might be a possible solution.
