Bumper and trims went to El Paso Electroplating. Quoted $395 for "street" chrome on rear bumper ('71 - '72 Chevelle) $800 to straighten, clean up, and polish some of the trims (window stainless, drip channel, grille bars, roof rail channel) Don't have rocker or wheel opening trims for the car.
Stopped by Ogden a couple weeks ago. They are now quoting 3700.00 for 70 rear bumper. Show chrome only.
I just got mine back form Art's in Seattle for the rear bumper & the 2 venti-ports on the 67 skylark. 725 for the bump 500 for the VPs
My neighbor took a peek at then covered his eye's & asked for a 5 gallon bucket... I asked why? Him-for all the drool.
Well I was just quoted $2600 for the pair of bumpers for my 67. Rear has some bumps and dents, front center is split a little bit. Guess now I either ship them or drive 11 hours each way to get to Ogden Utah.
Why not just drive up to Seattle,,,, Less drive time and cheaper$$$$$. And 10x the quality of workmanship...
I was quoted about the same from Ogden Chrome on a per bumper basis. I'm just using a lot of steel wool on marginal bumpers to make them look as good as I can. Keeping an eye out for a good '72 front bumper
After reading this I am assuming that the closest to and best place to south Ga to have a bumper chromed is Sandy's. Is that what you guys are saying? I just received a quote from them at $690 for the front and $720 for the rear.
2.5 - Maybe Keystone - A few years back I spoke to the local office and they gave me a great quote and turn around. I think they ship them to Northstar in MN. I did not use them but you should have an office in Austell, GA - under Keystone. From the web - "LKQ/Keystone did 3 bumpers as I knew they bought NorthStar. I just dropped the cores off at a local LKQ office (they're everywhere in the USA) and they rode the LKQ truck to/from the plater." Give them a call and see if they still do it 1-800-521-9999.
I'm picking up 2 -69 bumpers and pot metal chrome pieces next week from Sandy's. I'll let you know quality.
Reminds me of the old Boston Clutch. The place was a dump within a neighborhood that was also a dump, but just about everybody who did any auto racing or car restoring used them. If they didn't have it or couldn't make it, you didn't need it. On the subject of Electroplating, I'm surprised that anybody does it in the USA. With all of the nasty stuff that they use and then have to get rid of, I would think that it would be a nightmare business. I am not at all shocked that electroplating is expensive.
