Alan is correct with that. There are a ton of us all in the tri-state area. Everything from turbos to Wildcats, to GSX's both racing and shows and also car cruises. Plenty of Buick experience and knowledge in this area. The local Buick Club is the Northeast GS/GN Club (Club Hotline 845-528-GSGN) which has been around since 1980. It is affiliated with the GSCA and the BPG. We sponsor car meets and also have an annual Spring Meeting in Chappaqua, NY ( Westchester County around 45 minutes north of NYC) and an annual Christmas Party which I believe will be this January 12 2008 in Mohegan Lake, NY (Putnam County).

OK, I'm man enough to admit I don't have a clue about all those spec's your quoting! One day maybe! I have a 300 in my '67 also. It's a 2-barrel though. I will be pulling it in the coming months after finishing the frame. So, how do I even approach your knowledge about the rebuilding process? Any books to recommend? Any chance that tired engine you're pulling has a 4-barrel intake and carb?

Yes you have found a great place to get answers, and ideas. And yes we'd love to see the progress on your rebuild.

    Best Wishes,
    Joe M

PS: Weren't you looking for a frame? Any luck dealing with that guy on Craigslist?

Yep, I'm the fram girl. He's sticking solid to $6000 for both or $2000 for the parts car. They just aren't worth it so I'm going to let him sit on them all winter and see what he wants then. I'm just not digging another one outta the snow in February! ;)

As for the rebuild I'm going to message you a guy to talk to, he's a huge Chevy guy, but he knows alot about building for what you want. He found my new block and is building it for me. Best of luck!

    high volume oil pump

ouch. shim the oil bypass and you can get 100psi out of the stock pump. blown455 / Rod + Danie just above us in this thread are turning sub-8 second 1/4's on the stock big block pump.

The mains are turned down slightly to make the bottom end loose

ouch. methinks you're going to need that 100psi.

oh crapcakes. has anyone recommended the Stephen Dove book to you yet? http://www.paeenterprises.com/bookinfo.html

i'm not going to dispute his expertise with Chevy's and i'm sure he means well but Buick's are notorious for going "kaboom" after a Chevy spec rebuild. can you find an engine builder up there for him to talk to that's familiar with Buick turbo v6's or Land Rover v8's? those engines are the same architecture as yours and a good Rover v8 / Buick v6 guy will have no trouble finding his way around the 350 or giving good build advice.

I'll give you he may not be a huge Buick fan, but he is good. He's building my 300 Buick and my 400 Chevy SB for my race truck. I love stock. That's what I wanted with my Buick, many of the shops up here and those Buck lovers I talk to tell me go with a 350, but I love the nastalic feel of the originial factory options - even down to the radio. I trust him for many reasons, including that he was a machinest, is ASE certified and he's never had an engine come back on his guarentee. We have two machine shops in Anchorage so between Alaska Drag Bike and Midtown Machine, both of who sub work out to him and one who has an open job invitation for him I figgure I've made a good choice.

We're not going to doubt his skills or experience, but along those lines don't doubt our collective group knowledge on the fact that building a Buick motor IS NOT just the same Ole, same Ole ...just like re-doing a chevy sb. There are significant differences with the oiling and bearing clearences such that you should buy the book recommended above and MAKE SURE your machinist reads the specific topics covering oiling mods AND bearing clearences.

...otherwise, there's a good chance we'll be reading a thread in the future titled "Why did my motor KaBoom afer only xxx miles ??!!??" and we'd rather read one titled "Wow !!! I LOVE my BUICK !!"

he's never had an engine come back on his guarentee.

    [shrugs]

    okeydokey.

as long as he warranties it for 5,000 mi non-race duty i guess it's on him.

what does he say when you tell him that the recommended spec for the SBB is .0005-.0015" on the mains and .0020-.0023" on the rods?
